About The Position

Under direct supervision, the Material Handler I handles and maintains the flow of materials and products on the premises according to established guidelines. This entry-level position includes on-the-job training and involves moving materials used to construct components and finished products, operating material handling equipment, and following safety procedures. The role has no supervisory responsibilities.

Requirements

• High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
• Knowledge of and ability to use motorized and non-motorized material handling equipment.
• Manual dexterity.
• Knowledge of safety procedures for materials handling tasks.
• Ability to apply common-sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds frequently and up to 80 pounds on occasion.
• May be required to perform tasks involving climbing, lifting, pushing, or kneeling.

Responsibilities

• Physically handle materials used to construct components and finished products, including lifting, carrying, and stacking items to optimize their movement.
• Operate motorized and non-motorized material handling equipment; some equipment may require specialized training.
• Respond attentively to training from the foreman or more senior handlers to increase knowledge of work processes.
• Understand and observe safety procedures and practices to prevent injury to self or coworkers.
• Attend periodic safety meetings as required and recommend changes to improve safety procedures when appropriate.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
