About The Position

Under direct supervision, the Material Handler I handles and maintains the flow of materials and products on the premises according to established guidelines. This is an entry-level position with on-the-job training. The role has no supervisory responsibilities. Work takes place in a production environment subject to temperature variations, hazardous chemicals, mechanical parts, increased noise levels, and dust. The employee must be able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds frequently and occasionally up to 80 pounds. Tasks may involve climbing, lifting, pushing, or kneeling. Requirements

High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
Knowledge of and ability to use motorized and non-motorized material handling equipment.
Manual dexterity.
Knowledge of safety procedures for materials handling tasks.
Ability to apply common-sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds frequently and occasionally up to 80 pounds.
May be required to perform tasks involving climbing, lifting, pushing, or kneeling.

Responsibilities

Handle materials used to construct components and finished products, including lifting, carrying, and stacking items to optimize their movement.
Operate motorized and non-motorized material handling equipment; some equipment may require specialized training.
Attend to training from a foreman or more senior handlers to increase knowledge of work processes.
Understand and observe safety procedures and practices to prevent injury to self or coworkers.
Attend periodic safety meetings as required and may recommend changes to improve safety procedures.
Perform other duties as assigned.
