About The Position

The Material Handler 1 receives, stores, and distributes material, equipment, and products within the establishment. This is an entry-level position in training, with primary duties including cart pulling, order picking, and floor replenishment tasks. The role also involves unloading and loading boxes (lumper). The position requires consistent and reliable attendance, with flexibility for overtime when needed. The employee must be able to identify areas for improvement in processes and procedures to ensure accuracy and efficiency in all aspects of the job, and execute the Company’s Mission, Vision, and Values.

Requirements

  • Ability to hear, read and comprehend operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, short correspondence, work orders and bills of lading in English.
  • Understands the SKU process and can recognize inaccuracies in product, packaging, case pack and description.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one situations with co-workers and/or supervisors.
  • Basic Math: ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Excellent Hand-eye coordination and attention to detail.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one-or two-step instructions dealing with standardized situations.
  • Able to learn quickly.
  • Detail oriented, able to multi-task, extremely organized and able to follow directions (written and oral) with extreme accuracy.
  • Must possess a positive attitude and a strong work ethic.
  • 1+ years of distribution center experience.
  • Verifiable work history.

Nice To Haves

  • High school diploma or general education degree preferred, but not mandatory.
  • Prior lift certifications a plus.
  • Microsoft Office and WMS systems experience preferred for Level 3.

Responsibilities

  • Receives, stores, and distributes material, equipment, and products.
  • Reads shipment summaries, purchase orders, packing lists, bill of materials, and other related documents.
  • Accurately and efficiently picks orders with little supervision.
  • Assists Team Lead in order completion, including labeling and checking labels for correct information and placement per customer guidelines.
  • Moves freight from cases to corresponding bins, transfers freight from racks to assigned areas, and keeps forward bins stocked and organized.
  • Accurately sorts packages by SKU for receiving and storage, and sorts UPS and FedEx packages for trailer loading.
  • Uses hand-held scanner or tagging gun as needed.
  • Participates in meetings and functions as requested, providing and receiving feedback.
  • Assists in all areas of the department and warehouse to process orders in a timely manner.
  • Maintains a clean, organized, and safety-conscious work area.
  • Performs all other duties related to the department.
  • Identifies key areas of improvement in picking order, receiving product, pack, recovery, and returns, and improves processes and procedures.
  • Unloads and loads boxes (lumper).
