About The Position

We are seeking an experienced Material & Equipment Manager to lead the day-to-day operations of our warehouse, material handling, equipment, fleet, and facilities functions. This role plays a critical part in supporting our electricians and field teams by ensuring the right materials, tools, equipment, and vehicles are available when and where they are needed. As the backbone of our warehouse and shop operations, this role helps ensure our field teams have everything they need to work safely, efficiently, and productively. The ideal candidate understands the fast-paced nature of an electrical contracting environment and takes pride in creating organized, efficient systems that keep projects moving. Whether your background comes from an electrical contractor, electrical distributor, or similar trades-based operation, you'll have the opportunity to make a direct impact on field productivity, inventory accuracy, and overall operational success.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 5+ years of experience in warehouse operations, inventory control, material management, equipment management, or related operational roles.
  • 3+ years of leadership experience managing warehouse, logistics, inventory, or operations teams.
  • Experience working in an electrical contracting, construction, mechanical contracting, industrial, or skilled trades environment.
  • Experience overseeing facilities, building maintenance, grounds maintenance, or related operational functions.
  • Familiarity with construction materials, tools, equipment, and inventory management processes.
  • Strong understanding of inventory control, material handling, receiving, storage, and distribution processes.
  • Ability to prioritize competing demands and support fast-paced field operations.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills with a high level of attention to detail.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Willingness to work in various environments, including outdoor conditions.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working for an electrical contractor, electrical distributor, supply house, or other construction trades organization.
  • Basic knowledge of building systems and facility operations, with the ability to coordinate and manage building and grounds maintenance and repair activities.
  • Experience pulling trailers.
  • Experience supporting commercial, industrial, renewable energy, or service operations.
  • Experience with inventory management systems, asset tracking technology, and warehouse management software.
  • Knowledge of OSHA, DOT, and warehouse safety requirements.
  • Experience managing contractor-owned vehicles, trailers, lifts, and specialty equipment.
  • Experience with vendor relationships, purchasing, and material procurement.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily warehouse operations, ensuring electricians and field teams have timely access to materials, tools, and equipment.
  • Develop and maintain efficient receiving, staging, kitting, storage, and distribution processes.
  • Implement strategies to optimize warehouse organization, inventory flow, and operational efficiency.
  • Partner with purchasing, project management, and field leadership to forecast material needs and maintain appropriate inventory levels.
  • Build strong relationships with vendors and suppliers to support material availability, pricing, and service.
  • Maintain accurate inventory and asset records for electrical materials, tools, equipment, and company assets.
  • Track asset usage and lifecycle, coordinating repairs, maintenance, and replacements as needed.
  • Ensure all tools, equipment, and materials are properly tagged, organized, secured, and accounted for.
  • Implement and maintain asset tracking systems to improve visibility, accountability, and efficiency.
  • Coordinate project material staging and kitting to support efficient project execution and reduce field downtime.
  • Oversee a fleet of approximately 100 vehicles and equipment, ensuring proper maintenance, registration, and compliance with company standards.
  • Coordinate vehicle inspections, repairs, and outfitting with necessary equipment.
  • Maintain a fleet readiness plan, including spare vehicles and rotation response measures.
  • Ensure equipment and various implements are properly maintained and ready for use at all times.
  • Coordinate the delivery, pickup, and movement of materials, tools, and equipment to support field operations and project needs.
  • Oversee the maintenance, organization, and overall condition of company facilities, warehouse spaces, shop areas, and grounds.
  • Coordinate building repairs, preventative maintenance, and vendor services to ensure facilities remain safe, functional, and professional.
  • Develop and maintain maintenance schedules for building systems, warehouse equipment, and facility infrastructure.
  • Monitor facility needs and proactively address issues related to safety, appearance, functionality, and operational efficiency.
  • Manage relationships with contractors and service providers supporting building and grounds maintenance.
  • Lead, manage, and hold accountable a small team of warehouse, material handling, fleet, and asset management staff while fostering a culture of efficiency, accountability, and teamwork.
  • Conduct regular check-ins with team members to ensure job satisfaction and gather feedback.
  • Provide training and mentorship to leaders across departments to improve operations and safety awareness.
  • Implement and maintain safety protocols across all logistics, assets, and fleet operations.
  • Ensure all warehouse and fleet procedures meet regulatory standards (OSHA/DOT compliance).
  • Develop risk management strategies to prevent asset losses and operational disruptions.
  • Efficiently coordinate and deliver equipment and materials around Southeast Wisconsin.
