About The Position

North Wind Services is seeking individuals to support national security within science, technology, and engineering fields as part of their supplemental labor team at federal research and development installations supporting the Department of Energy. This role is a short-term position, limited to a maximum of 1000 hours in a calendar year. The successful candidate will be an employee of North Wind Services (NWS), a government contractor, and will take day-to-day direction from technical personnel employed directly by the research laboratories. NWS provides pay, benefits, and HR functions. The National Security Engineering Division (NSED) has an opening for a Material Coordinator to provide material coordination support to either the Global Security or the Engineering Directorates. This position may require flexibility to work overtime, shifts, and/or weekends, and the successful candidate will need to pass various on-site training modules.

Requirements

  • Ability to operate 2-ton flatbed truck with lift gate.
  • Ability to operate a 1/2 and 3/4 ton pickup.
  • Ability to operate electric, gasoline, propane powered forklifts up to 4-ton capacity.
  • Ability to operate manual, electrical, hydraulic pallet jacks.
  • Ability to operate and perform incidental crane and hoist operations.
  • Knowledge of inventory, material flow, and recording information; working knowledge of checklists, spreadsheets, and various tracking documents.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid California Drivers License.
  • Knowledge and experience associated with material handling techniques.
  • Ability to work in a multi-discipline team environment where team members include scientists, engineers, technicians, and coordinators.
  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills necessary to interact with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to perform multi-task duties with minimal direction.
  • US citizen, at least 18 years of age.
  • Able to meet pre-employment requirements including any required physicals, drug screen, and/or background investigation to satisfy clearance requirements from the Department of Energy.

Nice To Haves

  • Understanding of computer operations and tracking systems.
  • Working knowledge of Facility Operations at LLNL.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support on relocation of experiment equipment.
  • Provide support to move offices up to and including Associate Director level.
  • Assist with shipping, receiving, and tracking of materials and supplies.
  • Maintain supply inventories and storage systems.
  • Help Directorate Property Manager perform property inventory.
  • Perform routine inspections on emergency eyewashes and showers.
  • Work with the building coordinators assisting with miscellaneous projects in facilities.
  • Perform all assignments in accordance with ES&H, security, and business practice requirements and policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
