About The Position

The Master Mechanic is responsible for maintaining the reliability, safety, and performance of manufacturing equipment and facility systems. This position performs advanced troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and repair activities across mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and basic electrical systems. The role supports continuous production by minimizing downtime, improving equipment performance, and ensuring maintenance activities are completed in compliance with safety and quality standards. The Master Mechanic also serves as a technical resource for equipment-related issues and maintenance best practices.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • 4-6 years of industrial maintenance, heavy equipment, or manufacturing maintenance experience required
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and industrial equipment systems.
  • Working knowledge of electrical systems, PLC-controlled equipment, and manufacturing automation.
  • Ability to read technical drawings, schematics, manuals, and equipment specifications.
  • Proficiency with precision measuring instruments, diagnostic tools, and maintenance equipment.
  • Must have attention to detail and focused concentration.
  • Must be able to learn new tasks and complete tasks independently.
  • Must be able to make timely decisions in the context of the workflow.
  • Must possess strong organizational skills, ability to multi-task and responsiveness.
  • Valid Massachusetts Second Class Fireman’s license required
  • Must maintain internal powered lift license
  • Valid State Driver's License required.

Nice To Haves

  • completion of a skilled trade apprenticeship, technical training, or related maintenance certification preferred
  • Experience using computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) preferred

Responsibilities

  • Perform advanced troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of manufacturing equipment, machinery, and facility systems to maximize operational reliability.
  • Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, PLC-related, and basic electrical issues using testing equipment, system observations, and maintenance data.
  • Execute preventive and predictive maintenance programs in accordance with maintenance schedules and equipment requirements.
  • Perform emergency and unplanned maintenance activities to minimize production downtime and restore equipment performance.
  • Inspect, disassemble, rebuild, and install equipment components, ensuring repairs meet operational and safety standards.
  • Fabricate or modify replacement parts and components using machine shop tools, measuring devices, and maintenance equipment as needed.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, work orders, inspections, and equipment history within the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
  • Monitor and manage maintenance inventory levels, including parts, tools, and supplies, and coordinate procurement of replacement components when required.
  • Collaborate with production and plant leadership to identify equipment improvement opportunities, support process enhancements, and reduce recurring equipment failures.
  • Safely operate maintenance equipment, cranes, hoists, power tools, and other specialized tools while adhering to all safety requirements.
  • Maintain current technical knowledge of industrial maintenance practices, equipment technologies, and regulatory requirements through ongoing training and professional development.
