About The Position

The Master Mechanic position is a full-time role with a day shift schedule. The primary responsibilities include performing routine preventive maintenance on building systems, equipment, and fixtures, responding to maintenance requests, and assisting with complex repairs. The role also involves conducting minor repairs, inspecting equipment for safety hazards, documenting work, following safety protocols, supporting emergency response, and maintaining tools and work areas. This position requires a strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, and electronic HVAC/R systems, the ability to read technical documents, problem-solving skills, and excellent communication and teamwork abilities. Physical capability to handle demanding tasks is also necessary.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in a maintenance field required
  • Basic knowledge of building systems (electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry).
  • Ability to use hand and power tools safely
  • Strong customer service skills when interacting with hospital staff
  • Ability to lift and move equipment up to typical maintenance standards
  • Willingness to work rotating shifts including weekends or on‑call as needed
  • Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and electronic HVAC/R systems
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical manuals, schematics, and regulatory documents.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills; ability to interact professionally with hospital staff, patients, and vendors.
  • Physical ability to lift heavy equipment, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces or in adverse conditions.

Nice To Haves

  • Technical school or associate degree in HVAC/R or a related field preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine preventive maintenance on building systems, equipment, and fixtures (lighting, doors, plumbing, HVAC filters, etc.).
  • Respond to basic maintenance requests from clinical and non-clinical departments in a timely manner.
  • Assist senior mechanics with more complex repairs involving HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and medical support systems.
  • Conduct minor repairs such as replacing light bulbs, repairing wall fixtures, tightening hardware, and patching small surfaces.
  • Inspect equipment and facilities to identify potential safety hazards or maintenance needs.
  • Document all work performed in the hospital’s maintenance management system.
  • Follow hospital safety protocols, including infection control, PPE use, and regulatory compliance.
  • Support emergency response efforts such as power outages, equipment failures, or facility incidents.
  • Maintain tools and work areas in clean, safe, and organized conditions.
