About The Position

This posting will be used to fill a current vacancy in the Fleet Management Division of the General Services Department within the City of Oklahoma City. An eligibility list will be established or supplemented for filling future vacancies per provisions of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) Collective Bargaining Agreement. The Master Mechanic I is primarily responsible for diagnosing and repairing equipment malfunctions, estimating repair costs, writing service orders and providing other employees with on-the-job training related to automotive repairs and maintenance.

Requirements

• Possession of a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
• Possession of a valid Class A Commercial Driver License (CDL).
• Possession of a current Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Master Automobile (including Light Truck) Certification.
• Possession of a valid Class B Commercial Driver License (CDL) with Hazmat Endorsement (for Fire Department).
• Possession of a current Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Master Medium-Heavy Truck Certification or ASE Master Automobile (including Light Truck) Certification (for Fire Department).
• Employees are responsible for providing their own hand tools if required by the department.
• Must possess or obtain a valid Class A Commercial Driver License or Class B with Hazmat Endorsement for Fire Department employees, within twelve (12) months from the date of hire/promotion/transfer/demotion.
• Must possess or obtain ASE Master Automobile (including Light Truck) certification within twenty-four (24) months of hire/promotion/transfer/demotion.
• Fire Department employees will be required to possess or obtain ASE Master Medium-Heavy Truck certification or Master Automobile (including Light Truck) certification within twenty-four (24) months of hire/promotion/transfer/demotion.
• Knowledge of automotive operation and repair principles, methodologies and techniques.
• Skill in applying knowledge of automotive operation and repair principles, methodologies and techniques to work performed.
• Skill in diagnosing major and minor malfunctions of gasoline and diesel automotive equipment.
• Skill in effectively relaying technical information to others, using tact and diplomacy.
• Skill in maintaining accurate records.
• Skill in providing employees with verbal instructions and physical demonstration of automotive repairs and maintenance.
• Skill in reading and interpreting technical sketches, diagrams and instructions.
• Ability to and skill in preparing accurate cost estimates for required repairs and services.
• Ability to assume responsibility for work performed and decisions made.
• Ability and willingness to have assignments reviewed periodically through inspection of records and physical observation of work performed.
• Ability and willingness to learn and keep up to date on all required credentials related to the Master Mechanic's areas of specialization.
