About The Position

TAP Engineering is seeking a Master Machinist in College Park, Maryland. The role designs, fabricates, and maintains specialized equipment and assemblies that support advanced research initiatives. It requires substantial technical expertise in precision machining, custom fabrication, and development of complex laboratory systems.

Requirements

• At least 10 years of relevant experience as a machinist.
• Experience programming and operating CNC machines.
• U.S. citizenship is required for clearance processing.
• For candidates without clearance, ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI security clearance.

Nice To Haves

• Experience conceptualizing, designing, and building apparatus for scientific research.
• Active TS/SCI security clearance with appropriate polygraph.

Responsibilities

• Manage and oversee shop resources.
• Fabricate equipment and assemblies required to advance research at the lab.
• Design, build, and maintain ultra-high vacuum systems.
• Design, fabricate, and maintain specialized laboratory equipment, including optical instruments, specialized microelectronic manufacturing equipment, and X-ray equipment.
• Build and install advanced piping for toxic gas systems.
