About The Position

This position exists to perform skilled electrical work in the installation, maintenance, and repair of various electrical systems, plumbing, heating, and electrical construction projects as needed. The role involves carrying out a program of preventive maintenance, maintaining and repairing assigned equipment, understanding contract agreements, and monitoring vendor performance on electrical equipment.

Requirements

  • Current Registration with the Minnesota State Board of Electricity as a Class A Master Electrician.
  • Knowledge and skills in the methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in trades work sufficient to assist skilled trades staff in the completion of assigned projects.
  • Ability to perform semi-skilled trades work sufficient to complete minor trades plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and/or electrical systems and equipment.
  • Ability to perform minor repairs and adjustments to machinery and equipment including the general maintenance and minor repairs of buildings.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety measures related to trades work sufficient to safely and efficiently perform the job duties.
  • Ability to provide work direction to unskilled helpers.
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions sufficient to interpret and carry out assignments in a safe and efficient manner.

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to make sketches, write specifications, and estimate material and labor costs.
  • Knowledge of constructions plans, blueprints, and specifications to draft, interpret, modify and follow through to completion new construction, remodeling and other carpentry projects.
  • Ability to use basic computer communication/reporting programs and systems.
  • Knowledge of State, Federal, and local ordinances and code governing building mechanical equipment and repair.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out a scheduled electrical maintenance program to ensure efficient and economical operation.
  • Plan, perform, and provide lead work direction on electrical maintenance and preventive maintenance projects.
  • Maintain a system of record keeping for all equipment being maintained.
  • Perform construction work to improve and ensure all systems are operational and up to code.
  • Perform other repairs, maintenance, and/or construction remodeling projects as directed by the Building Maintenance Foreman or the Physical Plant Director.
  • Comply with the Occupational Safety and Health Act, participate in mandatory training, testing, and certification, and comply with departmental safety policy.
