About The Position

The Chesapeake Bay Foundation (CBF) seeks a Maryland Oyster Restoration Intern to support its oyster restoration program and staff in Maryland. This role involves both administrative tasks, such as volunteer engagement and event planning, and significant fieldwork. Interns will also contribute to oyster gardening (a community program teaching oyster cultivation for restoration projects) and shell recycling (diverting oyster shells from landfills for restoration use). This internship is scheduled for approximately September to November 2026, with negotiable start and end dates within that period.

Requirements

Currently enrolled in a degree-granting program (undergraduate or graduate) or a recent graduate of such a program.
Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
Ability to work effectively with staff and volunteers, as well as independently.
Ability to be a self-starter.
Excellent time management skills needed to handle multiple, concurrent projects.
Familiarity with Excel, Word, and Outlook required.
Creative thinkers interested in learning about the Chesapeake Bay and furthering the Foundation’s mission.
Must have reliable daily transportation for travel in Maryland.
Travel to other areas within the state such as Baltimore, the Eastern Shore and Southern Maryland is required.

Nice To Haves

Students obtaining or who have obtained degrees in environmental science, biology, marine science, or other, similar subjects is preferred.
Previous experience with fieldwork and data collection is preferred but not a requirement.

Responsibilities

Assist with hands-on restoration activities including oyster planting and shell recycling.
Assist with managing volunteer events associated with the program.
Provide general office/administrative support to CBF Oyster Team staff, including data entry, filing, and organization of digital and material resources.
Attend relevant meetings with CBF staff and other restoration partners.
Help CBF Oyster Team staff manage the oyster gardening and shell recycling programs.
Prepare materials for events, such as advocacy asks, spat-on-shell, cages, and spreadsheets.
