About The Position

The Martial Arts Instructor will be responsible and accountable for planning, conducting, and evaluating high quality classes, while informing and serving YMCA members and volunteers in a premier fashion. The YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit is a non-profit organization dedicated to strengthening the foundation of community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Requirements

At minimum, a high school degree or equivalent is required
CPR and First Aid certifications must be current within 30 days of hire
An understanding of physical education principles is essential as well as the ability to work with people of all ages and fitness levels
Physical ability to perform the classes they will be leading
Ability to communicate verbally to individuals and small groups, especially children

Nice To Haves

Experience working with children in a group setting is preferred, not required

Responsibilities

Teaches members the proper and preferred technique for all exercises
Communicates positively with members by motivating them through creativity, personality, energy and enthusiasm
Maintains a neat, clean and pleasant environment throughout the entire YMCA and especially in the areas where the Martial Arts classes are held.
Maintains safety in all classes by following YMCA and national certification guidelines
Organizes, at a minimum, three family events for participants from the Martial Arts program
Informs members of new information regarding training, exercise safety and effectiveness
Performs other assigned duties as directed by Supervisor
