About The Position

The Department of Marketing and Brand Strategy at West Virginia University is currently accepting applications for a (Hybrid) Marketing Specialist. Under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Marketing, Strategic Communications and Marketing, this individual will be responsible for assisting with the development, implementation, and monitoring of marketing and social media efforts that promote participation, enrollment, engagement, and community-building for Adventure WV and Campus Recreation. This position supports the day-to-day marketing needs of two distinct, highly visible Student Life units and helps communicate the value of their programs, facilities, services, and experiences to students and the broader WVU community. Following University brand and communications guidelines, the Marketing Specialist is responsible for the management of printed materials, websites, social media, digital communications, advertisements, event promotion, and other initiatives that strengthen the positive image of Adventure WV and Campus Recreation. The position is part of the Strategic Communications & Marketing team and works closely with the directors and staff of Adventure WV and Campus Recreation, other Student Life communicators, campus partners, and student employees.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing or related field.
  • A minimum of one (1) year of related experience required
  • Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience will be considered
  • All qualifications must be met by the time of employment.
  • Experience in marketing goal development, tracking and analytics
  • Demonstrated ability to develop strong customer relationships
  • Ability to assist with the development and execution multichannel communications and marketing plans
  • Ability to clearly articulate (written and verbal) strategies and plans to relevant stakeholders to achieve goals
  • Demonstrated ability to develop written communications
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects with competing priorities
  • Self-starter and can lead independently and proactively
  • Strong analytical skills, problem-solving and high attention to detail
  • Ability to adhere to WVU brand guidelines
  • Ability to keep abreast of changing technology as it impacts marketing and makes necessary changes.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in the development and implementation of marketing and communications plans that support Campus Recreation and Adventure WV goals, including recruitment, enrollment, participation, attendance, and engagement.
  • Handles the day-to-day coordination and implementation of communications and marketing initiatives for Campus Recreation and Adventure WV, as assigned by the Assistant Director.
  • Serves as a primary project contact and liaison between Strategic Communications & Marketing, Campus Recreation, and Adventure WV.
  • Manages assigned projects from initiation through completion, tracking timelines, deliverables, approvals, progress, and outcomes.
  • Helps foster and maintain excellent partnerships with on- and- off-campus organizations.
  • In collaboration with the Assistant Director, creates marketing content and collateral, including written copy, photography, video, basic graphic design, email communications, digital signage, web content, and promotional materials.
  • Ensures brand consistency across websites, email, social media, events, print materials, and other marketing activities in accordance with WVU guidelines.
  • Assists with establishing campaign benchmarks and tracking metrics to evaluate the reach, effectiveness, and ROI of marketing activities.
  • Conduct post-campaign analysis for all projects and campaigns; develop reports and best practices based on insights.
  • Manages the day-to-day social media presence for Campus Recreation and Adventure WV, which includes capturing photos, video and other content creation. Collaborate with Strategic Communications & Marketing social media teams, as needed.
  • Meet regularly with Campus Recreation and Adventure WV teams for marketing project intake and review; assist and assess events.
  • Attends relevant meetings, programs, and events as assigned by the Assistant Director and the directors of Campus Recreation and Adventure WV.
