About The Position

The Geering Up Marketing and Communications Coordinator is responsible for participating in the development and leading the execution of marketing strategies in support of Geering Up Engineering Outreach’s strategic objectives, including promoting camps, clubs, workshops, events, student staff recruitment, partnership recognition and initiatives that strengthen the organization’s profile and brand. The Marketing and Communications Coordinator will work in collaboration with the Geering Up administrative team and the Applied Science MarCom Team to implement multi-media marketing campaigns to support these initiatives. The Marketing and Communications Coordinator will create compelling marketing materials and campaigns that drive participation and increase awareness among target audiences. This position will also manage and carry out multiple projects concurrently to ensure the marketing campaigns and communication tactics achieve the target goals with respect to participation in the camps, as well as other outreach activities. The position typically follows a standard day; however, flexibility is required, as some responsibilities involve evening and weekend work to support events and outreach activities.

Requirements

  • Diploma in Marketing.
  • Minimum of one year of related experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

Nice To Haves

  • A university degree in a relevant discipline such as marketing, communications, journalism, media relations, PR, or marketing/ communication related areas is preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience developing integrated marketing campaigns and managing digital marketing initiatives.
  • Experience using marketing analytics, CRM systems, email marketing platforms and digital advertising tools.
  • Demonstrated project management skills and a proven track record in coordinating multiple marketing and communications projects.
  • Working knowledge of contemporary marketing and communications strategies and practices.
  • Experience in using online and social media platforms for marketing.
  • Experience in Google Analytics, AdWords and Facebook Ads is a plus.
  • Experience with digital imaging, digital audio/video editing and/or familiarity with a variety of graphics and/or digital video editing packages.
  • Ability to compose correspondence, reports, presentations, and other written materials using clear concise business English.
  • Ability to accurately proofread spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
  • Ability to exercise tact and discretion.
  • Ability to work effectively independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize, organize and schedule workload, work under pressure, meet budget limitations and deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in the development of the marketing and brand management strategy for Geering Up programs.
  • Participates in the planning, and leads the execution of comprehensive annual marketing and communications strategies to support Geering Up initiatives, to promote summer youth camps, school outreach, outreach to underrepresented youth, teacher programming, partnership outreach and other similar initiatives.
  • Responsible for driving engagement, annual participation, registration, and revenue generation for Geering Up camps, workshops, and other offerings.
  • Participates in the development, and leads the implementation of integrated marketing strategies and campaigns, including digital marketing, search engine marketing, remarketing, paid advertising, email marketing, and other audience development initiatives.
  • Participates in determining annual marketing priorities, and establishes campaign calendars and promotional schedules in alignment with program registration timelines.
  • Leads execution of integrated multi-channel marketing campaigns across digital, print, social media, email, and community engagement channels.
  • Monitors campaign performance through analytics, and reporting, measuring ROI, audience engagement, registrations, website performance, and social media effectiveness to inform continuous improvement.
  • Develops engaging social and web content showcasing engineering experiences, participant success stories, and the impact of the Geering Up programs.
  • Identifies opportunities to incorporate user-generated content and emerging digital trends to increase engagement and reach.
  • Manages the development and production of marketing and communications materials across print, and digital channels, including websites, social media, brochures, annual reports, posters, newsletters, digital signage, photography, video and other promotional assets.
  • Coordinates the distribution of promotional materials to schools throughout British Columbia and other community partners.
  • Monitors analytics and develops metrics and dashboards; measures ROI for participation in engagement, event registrations and social media sites and for integrating user-generated content into the website.
  • Maintains and strengthens the Geering Up brand by ensuring a consistent visual identity and messaging across all communications, while aligning with the Faculty of Applied Science and UBC brand standards.
  • Identifies opportunities to recognize sponsors and increase partner visibility through marketing and communications activities.
  • Oversees a team of 4-5 part-time university student employees responsible for graphic design, web development, photography, videography and social media, providing direction, mentoring, and quality assurance for marketing deliverables.
  • Performs other duties as required.
