About The Position

As Market Lead, Energy (Canada West), you will play a defining role in shaping WSP’s Energy strategy across western Canada and beyond. This is a senior leadership opportunity to influence how major energy systems are planned, delivered, and evolved — supporting the transition to resilient, low‑carbon, and future‑ready energy infrastructure. You will be involved in leading projects and being responsible for certain accounts and engagements, as well as the overall compliance with national and local regulations, and maintaining high standards of service reliability and customer satisfaction. You will bring together people, clients, and ideas to grow our Energy portfolio, strengthen market presence, and deliver meaningful outcomes for communities, industry, and the environment. Our Energy subsector, a key component of WSP’s ERI (Energy, Resources and Industry) sector, supports clients from coast to coast. From small installations to multi-phase integrated megaprojects, we support your upstream, midstream, or downstream oil and gas activities and energy transition markets at all stages of the project lifecycle, anywhere in the world. We are focused on providing design, engineering and environmental services that contribute to climate adaptation and mitigation, sustain the use and protection of water and marine resources, protect and restore biodiversity, and support our clients as they transition to low carbon solutions. Requirements

  • At least 18 years experience with more at least 10 years’ experience in a leadership role in the Energy sector
  • Hands-on experience with Project Delivery
  • Engineering degree in a related discipline or technical diploma from post-secondary institution
  • Proven experience in business development with an existing network in the Western Canadian Energy market within British Columbia
  • Strong financial and business acumen
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of the energy sector, including key industry trends and emerging technologies related to LNG, energy transformation, and decarbonization
  • Ability to negotiate and build relationships with clients

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with managing business operations and/or a P&L
  • P.Eng. or P.Tech. designation
  • Bilingual in both French and English

Responsibilities

  • Technical Market Leader for Energy, reporting to Vice-President-Energy
  • Leading and growing the Energy practice in Western Canada
  • Acting as a thought leader, applying advanced in-depth and broad knowledge and being externally recognized as a top “go-to” resource in their field
  • Making decisions on highly complex issues regarding work approach for project components and completion of team tasks and responsibilities
  • Anticipating business needs, securing required resources, and leading initiatives to implement change in the organization
  • Making recommendations and being involved with important decision-making on highly technical and complex aspects of WSP projects
  • Leading certain client accounts and engagements within the Energy Group
  • Supporting the growth of technical disciplines required for Energy
  • Ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and standards and providing oversight and governance on the various major projects ongoing within the Energy team
  • Providing governance on Energy jobs including quality, and providing leadership on Energy proposals
  • Collaborating with other internal departments and stakeholders to improve quality and project delivery, including management of subconsultants
  • Mentoring and coaching other Energy staff as required
