About The Position

Ethan Allen, a leading interior design destination, is seeking a Market Design Leader (MDL) to achieve sales goals while maintaining satisfactory profit performance, gross margin, inventory levels, and customer service. The MDL will maintain the Design Center's image through a planned merchandising program, ensuring brand consistency. This role involves leadership, cultivating an environment where staff are inspired to reach their potential, and overall management of the design center. The MDL will implement change initiatives, build relationships, hold the team accountable, and coach them to meet or exceed sales goals. Driving new business through grassroots marketing, partnering with local businesses, developing the Trade business, and utilizing social media are key aspects of this role. The MDL will perform all functions necessary for the development of sales and profits for assigned design centers and service centers. They will review P&L statements monthly and develop community relationships to positively impact the business. The role includes supervising and evaluating leadership within the assigned district, providing guidance, motivation, and accountability. Performance appraisals, ensuring adherence to company policies (including Code of Conduct, workplace harassment, sexual harassment, and discrimination/retaliation), and providing training and development for leadership are also responsibilities. The MDL will work with retail accounting and Regional Leadership to prepare sales budgets and forecasts, participate in market potential determination, and contribute ideas for policy improvements. Ensuring proper inventory reconciliation and proposing innovative strategies for business growth are also expected.

Requirements

  • BA or BS degree in Business and/or Interior Design with courses in such areas as accounting, economics, management, or similar courses.
  • Minimum of five years in retail sales management and merchandising.
  • Experienced in budget forecasting, monitoring and preparation of financial reports, managing sales growth, and procuring profits.
  • Supervisory experience required.
  • An entrepreneurial attitude and approach with excellent business sense.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and motivate people.
  • Must be accessible to associates on holidays, weekends, and evenings as the business demands.
  • Travel within the district is required as well as limited overnight travel.

Responsibilities

  • Develop relationships and participate in community programs.
  • Supervise and evaluate activities of all leadership within assigned district.
  • Provide advice, counsel, guidance, leadership, motivation, and accountability for performance.
  • Complete performance appraisals in accordance with company policy.
  • Ensure adherence to all company policies such as Code of Conduct, workplace harassment, sexual harassment, and discrimination and/or retaliation.
  • Provide guidance and assistance to key personnel to ensure sales growth, financial integrity, and the protection of company assets.
  • Implement company policies and procedures.
  • Monitor compliance and help management hold all staff accountable for compliance.
  • Provide training and development for leadership.
  • Assist leadership with the development of their respective teams.
  • Prepare monthly and annual sales budgets and forecasts for all assigned design centers.
  • Participate in the determination of district market potential, preparation of district expense estimates, and development of financial and asset controls.
  • Contribute ideas and suggestions for changes and improvements in policy affecting design centers in the district.
  • Ensure proper reconciliation of inventories.
  • Propose innovative strategies that support growth and improvement of the business.
