About The Position

MacGregor is a global company operating in 30 countries with 2000 employees, providing sustainable cargo and load handling solutions to the maritime and offshore industries. We are seeking a Service Engineer with Hydraulic and Mechanical competence who is driven by problem-solving and thrives working with complex equipment. This hands-on expert will perform repair, maintenance, and service on critical marine equipment, including MacGregor's and third-party equipment such as shipboard cranes, hatch covers, and deck machinery. The role requires a commitment to quality and safety to ensure customers' vessels operate smoothly. The position involves working at local shipyards and ports worldwide, with flexible working hours expected in response to demand. The role is based in MacGregor's office in Norfolk, Virginia, and reports directly to the Operations Superintendent, Operations, Americas and North Sea.

Requirements

  • Background in the merchant, offshore, naval or maritime industry, with a primary focus on hydraulic and mechanical equipment.
  • Minimum 3 years of hydraulic and mechanical experience
  • Fluent in both written and spoken English
  • Willingness and ability to travel for extended periods of time

Nice To Haves

  • Basic understanding of electric systems is a plus but not required.
  • Knowledge and experience in basic electronics are a plus.
  • Basic working knowledge of electronics, experience in PLC's is a plus
  • Previous experience with ship and/or port cranes, winches

Responsibilities

  • Diagnostics and troubleshooting of hydraulic and mechanical equipment
  • Supervise and perform the refurbishment, upgrades, inspections, preventative maintenance and corrective actions
  • Identify service and spares sales opportunities and communicate them to the line manager to support all activities
  • To support Service overall goals and budgets
  • Preparing detailed service reports and documentation for all work performed
  • Ensure that all activities comply with the Integrated Management System (IMS), QHSE and other rules and requirements according to MacGregor standards
