About The Position

Under general supervision, performs a wide variety of skilled maintenance, repair, servicing and overhaul of company boats and equipment. The marine mechanic is responsible for maintaining, repairing, and servicing a wide variety of diesel- and gasoline-powered marine vessels up to 40 feet in length. Requirements

• 2 plus years of experience in the maintenance and repair of diesel-powered marine engines and related equipment.
• Principles, practices, and procedures of the marine mechanical repair trade, including diagnosis and troubleshooting techniques.
• Principles, practices, and procedures of preventive maintenance.
• Fuel systems.
• Electric, hydraulic, cooling, and electronic ignition systems and steering control.
• Disassembly, inspection, and repair of various drive systems.
• Occupational and safety practices and hazards of the trade.
• Use of various types of hand and shop tools and technical tools of the trade.
• Computer applications applicable to assigned work responsibilities.
• Methods and equipment used to properly maintain marine equipment.

Responsibilities

• Diagnoses and performs major and minor repairs and overhauls to a variety of diesel and gasoline powered marine engines.
• Repairs vessel structural parts, using hand and power tools, electric arc, and oxyacetylene welding equipment.
• Performs a variety of specialized marine electrical and electronic system installations and repairs.
• Services, engine transmissions, drive shafts, propellers, and other specialized equipment.
• Performs scheduled preventive maintenance on vessels, operates a wide variety of shop tools and equipment required to maintain and service marine vessels.
• Lubricates and changes fluids and filters in engines and equipment; maintains and repairs portable gasoline and electric pumps and generators.
• Other duties as assigned.
