About The Position

APS is seeking a Marine Mechanic to perform essential job functions related to engine maintenance and repair on boats. This role involves starting motors, monitoring performance, diagnosing and repairing mechanical issues, and performing routine maintenance. The Marine Mechanic will also be responsible for mounting motors, repairing engine components, adjusting generators, and replacing faulty wiring. This position requires adherence to all company and contract-specific training requirements and effective communication skills.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree equivalent
  • 1-2 years of related experience and/or training
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, documents such as installation, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
  • Ability to communicate effectively to groups of customers or employees within the organization
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Ability to complete and maintain all required training required by the company or contract

Responsibilities

  • Start motors and monitor performance for signs of malfunctioning, such as smoke, excessive vibration or misfiring.
  • Observe equipment in operation to detect potential problems.
  • Document inspection, test results, and work performed or to be performed.
  • Mount motors to boats.
  • Repair engine mechanical equipment, such as power tilts, generators, bilge pumps, or power take-offs.
  • Repair defective engines or engine components.
  • Perform routine engine maintenance on boat engines, such as changing oil, filters and coils.
  • Set starter locks and align and repair steering or throttle controls, using gauges, screwdrivers, or wrenches.
  • Align equipment or machinery.
  • Disassemble and inspect motors to locate defective parts, using mechanic’s hand tools and gauges.
  • Inspect mechanical components of vehicles to identify problems.
  • Disassemble equipment for maintenance or repair.
  • Adjust generators and replace faulty wiring, using hand tools and soldering irons.
  • Adjust equipment to ensure optimal performance.
  • Repair electrical circuits or wiring.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by government officials, the Navy and APS management team members.
