About The Position

This Recreational Port Agent serves as a field interviewer and technical assistant to the biologist program in one of the following field offices: the northern district Manteo field office, the central district Washington Regional field office, or the southern district Wilmington Regional field office. This position is considered home-based which means the employee will spend minimal time in the closest field office and will work in an assigned area in which they reside. The Recreational Port Agent conducts surveys of marine recreational anglers to obtain information about their fishing effort, catch and participation in marine recreational saltwater fishing as part of the Marine Recreational Information Program’s Access Point Angler Intercept Survey. The Recreational Port Agent works with minimum supervision and is responsible for following a set schedule according to program procedures. Confident customer service skills are a plus. A successful port agent will be able to meet deadlines, work weekends, work nights to monitor nighttime recreational fishing, work outdoor in inclement weather, be able to travel within state to assigned fishing sites, and be able to respond on short notice to schedule changes. Must be able to swim. The port agent must possess a valid driver’s license and have reliable transportation.

  • Collects demographic, social and economic statistics from angler trips
  • Uploads data collected to central database using tablet software application
  • Organize, code, and compile data for analysis
