About The Position

The Marine Estimator will possess extensive knowledge of Naval aircraft carriers, surface ships, and a broad understanding of all trades within the shipbuilding and ship repair industry. This role involves applying expertise in Cost and Firm Fixed Price (FFP) estimating to analyze technical requirements in government and commercial work specifications in response to Requests for Proposals (RFPs), ensuring estimates align with company processes. The position requires coordinating, compiling, and submitting comprehensive estimates covering all labor, material, and subcontractor costs associated with each project. Responsibilities include reviewing and evaluating bid specifications, drawings, and applicable references for accuracy and completeness, as well as analyzing subcontractor and vendor proposals to verify compliance with scope, specifications, terms, and schedules. Collaboration with Production, Purchasing, and vendors is essential to discuss, verify, and finalize cost data. The role also involves preparing estimates for change orders, developing craft labor budgets, comparing subcontractor quotes with in-house estimates, identifying key work items and critical path activities, leveraging historical data to establish standard costs, and resolving ambiguities in specifications or bid packages prior to contract award. The Marine Estimator will apply cost and pricing expertise to prepare final bids for management review and approval.

Requirements

  • Must be able to read, write and comprehend instructions in written or spoken in English.
  • Must be able to calculate and understand units of measure.
  • Must be reliable with a strong work ethic.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment.
  • Must be able to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, tech manuals and work specifications for various types of machinery and/or piping systems.
  • Must be able to wear applicable PPE (Hard hat, safety goggles, gloves, steel toes shoes, ear protection).
  • Must have reliable transportation.
  • Must be eligible to obtain DBIDs.
  • Must be able to pass a drug screening.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze technical requirements in government and commercial work specifications in response to Requests for Proposals (RFPs).
  • Ensure estimates align with company processes.

  • Leverage historical data to establish and document standard costs and develop costs for new work where history does not exist.
  • Identify and resolve ambiguities or inconsistencies in specifications or bid packages that could impact cost, prior to contract award.
  • Apply cost and pricing expertise to prepare final bids for management review and approval.
