About The Position

A Marine Aquarium Curator assists with the development and management of exhibit design, maintenance, and fabrication; content and media development to support interpretive experiences at the Aquarium; develops and manages the research programs involving conservation, education and operations; oversees wildlife conservation programs; manages staff involved in aquaculture for conservation and operations, animal care programs, and life support operations; manages programs and staff dedicated to research and education of middle school, high school, and college students; applies sound supervisory and management standards and techniques in building and maintaining an effective work group; and fulfills equal employment opportunity responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university and two years of full-time paid professional experience working with marine specimens, exhibit design, and educational program design.
  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a major in life science or marine biology or closely related field and one year of full-time paid professional experience working with marine specimens, exhibit design, and educational program design.
  • A master’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in life science or marine biology.
  • A valid Class C driver’s license issued by the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is required at the time of appointment.
  • Applicants will be disqualified or deemed ineligible for hire if their DMV record reflects three or more moving violations and/or at-fault accidents, or a conviction of a major moving violation within the last 36 months in any state or jurisdiction.
  • Qualifying work experience must be gained in positions requiring a four-year degree.
  • Qualifying education must be from a college or university accredited by a City of Los Angeles recognized agency.
  • Applicants must list their school name and location, type of degree earned and major in the Education Section of the application.
