The Transmission MAOP Engineer contributes to transmission pipeline safety by verifying that natural gas transmission pipelines and associated facilities have valid Maximum Allowable Operating Pressures (MAOPs) under Federal Pipeline Safety Regulations (49 CFR, Part 192, Subparts J and L). The role focuses on pipeline segments and facilities without Traceable, Verifiable and Complete (TVC) records, as defined in Sections §192.624 and §192.607 of the MAOP Reconfirmation Final Rule. For pipeline segments and facilities requiring MAOP Reconfirmation, the engineer assists with administration of records reviews, establishes reconfirmation methods under §192.624(c), develops project scopes of work, and maintains schedules to meet regulatory deadlines. For assets without TVC material records, the engineer assists with the Material Verification Program under §192.607 to obtain appropriate material records and support design MAOPs. The role also supports program metrics, status reporting, budgets, and budget updates. As part of an on-call rotation, the engineer reviews integrity dig results, conducts failure pressure calculations, and communicates timely repair decisions. The engineer collaborates with functional areas and contractors on planning, prioritization, data collection, and integration of field and program activities. The role requires effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling, and monitoring, as well as staying current on regulations, advisory bulletins, and technologies affecting the programs. The engineer provides technical expertise and guidance to identify, analyze, and resolve complex problems, considering long-term and system-wide impacts. This is one position that may be filled at Engineer III or Senior Engineer level, depending on the successful applicant’s qualifications. Work is hybrid after the onboarding period, with employees expected to live within a reasonable daily commute of a Duke Energy facility. Travel is 5–15%. Relocation assistance may be provided, as applicable. The position is not represented by a union and does not offer visa sponsorship; the employee must be authorized to work in the U.S. without employment-based immigration sponsorship now or in the future.
