About The Position

This position performs engineering work in Duke Energy Carolinas Area Planning to support the reliable expansion of the electric transmission system. The Engineer III is an advanced-level role that solves complex engineering problems with limited supervision and applies fundamental concepts and procedures to increasingly complex and varied work. The Senior Engineer manages specialized engineering work with minimal supervision, works independently except on unusual or complex projects, and identifies problems, develops solutions, and takes action to resolve them. The role performs transmission-planning steady-state power-flow studies using PSSE and TARA, investigates criteria violations and develops solutions and system upgrades, and builds and updates models of existing and future transmission systems. It coordinates with internal departments, account managers, and large-load facility developers, supports other departments with planning matters, and represents Duke Energy in industry-led and regulatory activities. The position also provides technical expertise, manages project schedules and interfaces, prepares engineering documentation and reports, and supports company goals. The position is hybrid after onboarding. Employees must live within a reasonable commute—no more than 50 miles one way—from their designated Duke Energy facility and are expected to report there as directed, averaging three full workdays per regular workweek. Travel is 5–15%. Relocation assistance may be provided, as applicable. The role is not visa-sponsored and requires authorization to work lawfully in the U.S. without current or future employment-based immigration sponsorship.
