The Manufacturing Technician operates thin-film coating and test equipment, including retrieving designs and programming coating system controllers, running equipment according to established parameters and procedures, determining evaporation layer endpoints, interpreting and documenting production data, and monitoring two high-volume coating chambers while supporting peers. The role also operates characterization and test equipment, interprets results, maintains production schedules, and communicates activities in daily quality meetings. The technician prepares coating chambers by evaluating design requirements, preparing evaporation materials, inspecting evaporation components, replacing worn or dirty components, evaluating calibration and production data, using calibration equipment for setup and quality control, confirming run requirements, and documenting design-operation logs. The position has responsibility for the quality of assigned thin-film coating processes and equipment. Related work includes supporting optical-component cleaning and loading, maintaining inventory controls, performing minor maintenance, taking traces between coating runs, learning basic nonstandard system operations, auditing procedures for consistency, supporting training, and providing timely information to engineering. The position works in a demanding, fast-paced production environment and may involve acids, radioactive materials, and other toxic chemicals. Work takes place in a clean room where makeup and perfumes are discouraged to prevent contamination. Employees must follow site and corporate EHS requirements; the position requires pre-employment and annual physical evaluations associated with respirator use.
