About The Position

Corning is a world leader in materials science, known for its innovations in glass, ceramics, and related materials. The Optical Communications segment has evolved into a comprehensive provider of optical solutions. The purpose of this position is to provide rapid manufacturing support based on operational feedback and quality data, aiming to optimize safety, product quality, and equipment utilization in Optical Fiber manufacturing. The technician will identify and support process improvements, using judgment and experience to resolve issues and make recommendations.

Requirements

Two year electrical/mechanical/or controls technical degree preferred (Associates)
Experienced candidates with demonstrated skills and work experience will be considered
High school diploma and 10+ years manufacturing experience.
Experienced in troubleshooting and repair of electrical and mechanical equipment
Experienced in troubleshooting and repair of simple to complex mechanical devices
Ability to read/understand electrical and mechanical drawings
Computer literate and understands Microsoft windows to locate files, edit, save, transfer, etc.
Sound decision making and prioritization skills
Ability to communicate with all levels of the plant organization
Strong people skills
Ability to handle/prioritize multiple tasks as necessary
Good process and equipment troubleshooting skills
Mechanically and electrically inclined (aptitude for both)
Good written and verbal communication skills (detailed oriented)
Ability to train effectively
PC proficient (Excel, Word, SharePoint, Passdown)
Controlled response in emergency situations
Willing to act as a motivator and role model

Responsibilities

Help department achieve Safety and Lean goals.
Provide 2nd and 3rd level electrical/controls/mechanical/equipment troubleshooting of production equipment issues.
Monitor area performance, identify equipment/process issues, and follow issues to closure.
Manage multiple troubleshooting issues utilizing sound technical principles to drive resolution, prioritizing issues against plant and department priorities.
Receive training from engineering in technical SME areas, on new processes/equipment and/or on procedural changes.
Receive hazardous material training for purpose of Spill Team support as well as supporting other Production activities involving controlled chemicals.
Work with a variety of groups including operators, other support technicians, engineers, and trades to coordinate and direct equipment startup, repair, troubleshooting, and process changes.
Oversee and direct Trades on repairs as necessary.
Support Preventive Maintenance efforts on equipment.
Develop, document, and deliver training packages for new or modified equipment to production and support groups in the plant.
Assist engineers in the design, troubleshooting, documentation, and implementation of new or modified production equipment.
Direct maintenance personnel in the construction, testing, installation, and debugging of equipment.
