This Manufacturing Technician will perform electronic and mechanical assembly functions using work instructions, MSE direction and print specifications. Tasks may require fiber optic splicing, potting mechanical and electronic components, Hi-Pot testing, and may include soldering of electrical and electronic assemblies. The role involves electro-optic cable terminations and jointing, sub-surface communications cable management and electronics assembly. The individual contributor will provide skilled support on the assembly of potting, electro-mechanical and fiber optic assemblies, handling, inspecting, cleaning, and preparing delicate and sensitive optical components and assemblies. Familiarity with a broad range of electrical/electronic and mechanical parts and components such as fiber optics, solder, wire, resistors, diodes, capacitors, relays, transformers, coils, switches, PC boards, epoxies, and crimping is expected. The role requires reading and interpreting schematics and wiring diagrams, working with adhesives, precision assembly tools, and equipment such as fusion splicers, high precision fiber cleavers, polishing machines, and test tools. Additionally, the position involves guiding, coaching, and mentoring less experienced team members, participating in program or functional team projects for process improvement, and assisting in implementing and sustaining the 5S+1 program. The technician will attend daily departmental GEMBA meetings, update board contents, and follow up on actions. Assistance will be provided in determining the need for tooling and testing equipment, and making recommendations for their design and planning. The role requires the ability to stand for long periods, lift up to 35 lbs, and obtain/maintain a US Government Security Clearance. Occasional travel (<25%) is possible.
