About The Position

This Manufacturing Technician will perform electronic and mechanical assembly functions using work instructions, MSE direction and print specifications. Tasks may require fiber optic splicing, potting mechanical and electronic components, Hi-Pot testing, and may include soldering of electrical and electronic assemblies. This role involves electro-optic cable terminations and jointing, sub-surface communications cable management, and electronics assembly. The technician will perform coarse and fine adjustments using hand tools, precision measuring devices, and specialized equipment. They will handle, inspect, clean, and prepare delicate optical components and assemblies, and work with adhesives, precision assembly tools, and equipment such as fusion splicers, high precision fiber cleavers, polishing machines, and test tools. The position also includes guiding and mentoring less experienced team members, participating in process improvement projects, assisting with the 5S+1 program, attending daily GEMBA meetings, and assisting in determining tooling and equipment needs.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in an electronics manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with sub-surface communication optical cable, potting, fiber optics, electro-mechanical assemblies.
  • Familiar with the function of and use a broad range of electrical/electronic and mechanical parts and components such as fiber optics, solder, wire, resistors, diodes, capacitors, relays, transformers, coils, switches, PC boards, epoxies, crimping etc.

Nice To Haves

  • Technical School Training or equivalent a plus.
  • Experience with fiber handling and splicing.
  • Knowledge and the ability to read and interpret prints and schematics.
  • Strong communication skills (written, verbal, presentation).

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Work with adhesives, precision assembly tools, and different types of equipment such as fusion splicers, high precision fiber cleavers, polishing machines, and test tools.
  • Guide, coach and mentor less experienced team members.
  • Participate in program or functional team projects developing process improvement methods, solutions, and procedures.
  • Assist with implementing and sustaining the 5S+1 program.
  • Attend daily departmental GEMBA meetings, updating board contents, following up with acting and measuring effectiveness also performance.
  • Assist in determining the need for tooling, testing tooling, testing equipment and making recommendations for the design and planning of required tools and equipment.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.
  • Ability to lift up-to 35 lbs.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a US Government Security Clearance.
  • Occasional travel <25% possible.
