About The Position

Semtech is seeking a Manufacturing Systems Engineer to develop, maintain, and continually improve quality systems supporting wafer-level and flip chip assembly operations. The role combines corrective action leadership with ownership of site quality data, Smartsheet tracking systems, inspection procedures, and outgoing shipment release. The position is permanent and full-time in a high-reliability semiconductor environment. The engineer will lead corrective and preventive actions, maintain quality procedures and training programs, administer quality data systems and metrics, verify outgoing shipments, support customer requirements, and maintain the site’s quality management system. The role also serves as a systems engineer for site support functions and evaluates automation and AI tools to streamline work. The position requires collaboration across engineering, manufacturing, supplier organizations, technicians, and site leadership. Success depends on building reliable automated systems, following recurring processes through to closure, and training and influencing others through data and collaboration.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related technical field.
  • At least two years of experience in a manufacturing, product development, or quality engineering environment; semiconductor or electronics experience is preferred.
  • Advanced Smartsheet proficiency or similar, including formulas, cross-sheet references, dashboards, and automations, with ability to design and administer site-wide sheets and workflows.
  • Demonstrated expertise in 8D and root cause analysis, including 5-Why, fishbone, and fault tree methods.
  • Working knowledge of SPC, Cpk, and AIAG Core Tools, including PFMEA, Control Plans, MSA, PPAP, and APQP.
  • Experience with ISO 9001 or an equivalent QMS, including authoring and controlling procedures and work instructions in a PLM or document control system.
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Excellent communication skills, including leading meetings and delivering training, and a track record of collaborating with engineering, manufacturing, and supplier organizations.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience writing code or scripts (Python, SQL, or JavaScript) to automate workflows and report on data, including Smartsheet automation or API integrations.
  • Experience building dashboards in Tableau or a similar business intelligence tool.
  • Hands-on experience with chip-scale packaging technologies, such as flip chip, wafer-level CSP, or advanced packaging.
  • Five or more years of quality or manufacturing systems engineering experience in semiconductor backend assembly.
  • Experience with Agile PLM, MES, and/or SAP.
  • Experience training and certifying technicians or operators.
  • Six Sigma Green or Black Belt, CQE, CQA, or ISO 9001 / IATF 16949 Lead Auditor certification.
  • Familiarity with IATF 16949, AS9100, or ISO 13485 quality standards.
  • Master’s degree in Engineering, Materials Science, or a related technical field.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the site corrective and preventive action process, records, and status reporting.
  • Lead corrective action reports (CARs) using 8D and structured root cause analysis, partnering with engineering and manufacturing on failure analysis and effective corrective actions.
  • Facilitate weekly CAR review and quality incident report meetings using the CAR Action Tracker, including priority-based timelines, escalation, and timed effectiveness audits.
  • Report closure progress to the Quality Director and site leadership, and verify effectiveness through data analysis and follow-up validation.
  • Support continuous improvement projects and process action requests using Lean/Six Sigma and DMAIC.
  • Own quality processes and approximately 20 operating procedures, and create or improve procedures for assembly, facilities, EHS, and process development.
  • Own the RTR process and serve as subject matter expert and equipment engineer for the Vitrox reel-to-reel inspection tool.
  • Train quality technicians and new hires on procedures, and manage technician certification and recertification.
  • Administer the site quality Smartsheet environment, including sheets, trackers, dashboards, automations, and user access.
  • Build automated systems and integrations, including Smartsheet automations, scripts, and code, to reduce manual tracking.
  • Create and manage quality KPIs and publish weekly metrics using Tableau or other dashboards.
  • Serve as a general systems engineer for site support functions and evaluate AI and automation tools to streamline daily work.
  • Review outgoing quality control scans, shipment documentation, and NCMRs; participate in MRB dispositions to prevent nonconforming material from leaving the site.
  • Prepare Full Material Declarations and complete SGS and other third-party compliance requests with Document Control.
  • Track customer requests and customer-specific requirements through on-time closure, and support customer complaints through the RMA process.
  • Maintain the ISO 9001 QMS and support transition to IATF 16949.
  • Participate in internal and external audits as a technical subject matter expert.
  • Review and approve quality documentation, including procedures, work instructions, and process specifications.
