About The Position

The Manufacturing Systems Engineer develops, improves, and sustains manufacturing systems that support safety, quality, delivery, productivity, and cost performance. The role uses Lean Manufacturing principles and data-driven decision-making to identify opportunities, implement solutions, and optimize processes. It works closely with Operations, Engineering, IT, Quality, Program Management, and suppliers, supporting strategic initiatives and Mercury Marine’s operational excellence.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
• 1–3 years of manufacturing, industrial, or engineering experience.
• Understanding of manufacturing processes, assembly systems, and process development.
• Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, continuous improvement methodologies, SPC, and quality systems.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and data analysis skills.
• Effective communication and collaboration skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Nice To Haves

• Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification or willingness to obtain certification.
• Experience with AutoCAD or similar drafting software.
• Knowledge of advanced or flexible manufacturing systems.
• Experience implementing manufacturing technologies, systems, or process improvements.
• Proven ability to lead projects and deliver measurable business results.
• Experience working across departments, facilities, or complex manufacturing operations.

Responsibilities

• Support daily production by troubleshooting manufacturing process and system-related issues.
• Identify and implement process improvements that enhance safety, quality, productivity, and operational performance.
• Use Lean Manufacturing tools and continuous improvement methodologies to eliminate waste and improve efficiency.
• Analyze manufacturing data to support process optimization and business decision-making.
• Develop, maintain, and improve manufacturing execution systems and related processes.
• Create system specifications, Statements of Work, and qualification plans for new processes and technologies.
• Support the implementation of manufacturing technologies and system enhancements.
• Serve as a subject matter expert for key manufacturing systems and applications.
• Collaborate with Production, Quality, Engineering, IT, and suppliers to resolve issues and improve performance.
• Support new product introductions by developing efficient production processes and systems.
• Participate in safety, ergonomics, and compliance initiatives.
• Assist with audits, reporting requirements, and ISO-related activities.
