About The Position

As a Manufacturing Quality Engineer (MQE) for SoftGoods, you will select, implement, and optimize manufacturing processes and quality planning throughout the product lifecycle. You will apply mechanical and materials engineering expertise to evaluate part designs for manufacturability, identify suitable fabrication technologies, and establish quality control architectures from early prototyping through mass production. You will collaborate with Apple design teams and its global supply base to develop metrology techniques, statistical process control plans, and audit methodologies. You will lead technical escalations, assess production capability metrics, and drive continuous quality improvements across supplier factories to ensure cosmetic and structural product requirements are met. You will plan and lead experiments and validation exercises, analyze results, and provide technical recommendations to inform design, development, and supply-chain decisions. You will monitor supplier development and production performance, take responsibility for key work at program milestones, guide other Quality Engineers implementing the PQP, and communicate performance findings to management so corrective actions can be implemented.

Requirements

  • Experience supporting new product launches from a quality planning, quality engineering, or product development perspective.
  • Experience developing process quality plans and supplier quality audits, and driving corrective actions and failure analysis efforts.
  • Extensive knowledge of mechanical quality and reliability concepts, supplier management, and general manufacturing operations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Domestic travel is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with soft materials, mainly PU and textiles, is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with mechanical fabricated parts, adhesives, glues, jigs, fixtures, tooling, injection molding, or plastics may be acceptable.
  • Project management experience and understanding of DFx principles.
  • Deep understanding of DOE, GD&T, and SPC theory, with practical application experience.
  • Experience with highly cosmetic parts.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, propose, and lead experiments that produce timely and accurate analyses for design, development, and supply-chain decisions.
  • Assess whether fabrication technologies are suitable for part designs.
  • Plan validation exercises to demonstrate initial feasibility and manufacturing capability; analyze results and provide technical recommendations.
  • Review development progress at supplier locations and serve as an escalation point for critical process-related issues.
  • Participate in program planning and monitoring, taking responsibility for key work at program milestones.
  • Provide technical direction and guidance to other Quality Engineers supporting PQP implementation.
  • Assess measurability, address measurement concerns with partners, and direct studies to improve measurement methods where appropriate.
  • Establish audit procedures appropriate to each program and supplier to ensure consistency with Apple quality standards.
  • Implement FAI and Cp/Cpk reviews of mechanical parts.
  • Monitor supplier performance using production-line statistics, company inspections, and audits.
  • Prepare and communicate supplier performance summaries to management to support prompt implementation of corrective action plans.
  • Drive quality improvements across supplier factories and support quality execution from prototyping through mass production.
