About The Position

1X is building humanoid robots for home use, aiming to automate chores and give people back their time. This involves solving complex challenges in robotics, AI, and manufacturing simultaneously, at scale, and in a safe form factor for family environments. The company has been developing these robots since 2014 and is now focused on shipping its flagship product, NEO, a home robot designed for real-world operation alongside people. The company is scaling and hiring intentionally, seeking individuals inspired by the prospect of creating technology that genuinely changes how humans spend their time and creates abundance safely for all.

Requirements

  • 0-3 years of experience (internships, vocational training, apprenticeships, or relevant personal projects count)
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Hands-on aptitude — comfortable working with your hands and eager to learn fabrication across textiles, foams, and elastomers.
  • Care and precision — pride in clean, accurate work and noticing when something is off by a millimeter.
  • Foundational technical sense — a basic understanding of measurement, tolerances, and how parts fit and assemble together.
  • CAD foundation — a solid grounding in CAD, comfortable reading and navigating 3D models and translating drawings into physical parts.
  • Strong organization — keeps materials, samples, and workspaces orderly, and tracks tasks and documentation so work stays repeatable and easy to hand off.
  • Coachability and communication — listen well, follow direction, ask when unsure, and collaborate easily with people around you.

Nice To Haves

  • A technical certificate, associate degree, or trade training is a plus, or equivalent practical experience
  • Examples of hands-on work—school, personal, or professional projects—are encouraged, in lieu of a formal portfolio.

  • Reading drawings or patterns, and using basic measurement or CAD tools

  • Execute cut-and-sew, bonding, lamination, and assembly tasks accurately and consistently, following established workflows.
  • Prepare materials, maintain shop tools and equipment, and keep the prototyping space organized, safe, and production-ready.
  • Document your work—measurements, process notes, and results—so iterations stay traceable and repeatable across the team.
  • Partner closely with engineers and designers, asking good questions and absorbing feedback quickly to grow toward independent ownership.
