About The Position

CGI Inc, a Timken company, is seeking an Associate Manufacturing Quality Engineer to join their team in Carson City, Nevada. CGI specializes in producing quality products and services for medical and robotics innovation, with components used in surgical robots and space exploration. The Associate Manufacturing Quality Engineer will be responsible for investigating, analyzing, coordinating, responding to, and reporting on customer returns (RMAs) and internal Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs). This role involves working with Quality and Manufacturing Engineers to implement corrective and preventive actions, auditing suppliers, coordinating equipment and process qualifications, and supporting new product development activities. The position also includes programming inspection equipment, developing in-process inspection methods, monitoring customer quality ratings, and supporting senior quality engineers. The role requires a strong understanding of mechanical principles, machining practices, statistical process controls, and quality management systems like ISO9000, ISO13485, and AS9100. Familiarity with statistical software, inspection equipment (CMM, Vision Systems), Six Sigma, Lean practices, and CAD software is desirable. The ideal candidate is proactive, organized, an effective communicator, and capable of applying problem-solving techniques.

Requirements

  • One (1) years’ experience in a support role in Quality or Manufacturing or similar role.
  • Familiarity concerning mechanical principles, machining practices.
  • Familiarity concerning statistical process controls and measurements.
  • Familiarity of ISO9000, ISO13485 and AS9100 quality management systems and related requirements.
  • Familiarity of MiniTab or other statistical software required.
  • Capable of efficiently integrating existing methods with new innovations to economically solve production problems in a timely manner.
  • Has initiative and able to work effectively with little direction and/or few guidelines.
  • Able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing at all levels within the organization as well as with external customers and suppliers.
  • Organized, manages time effectively and able to prioritize competing tasks.
  • Able to apply problem solving techniques to identify root cause and prevent reoccurrence.
  • Working knowledge of computer systems and data processing, familiarity with complex ERP systems.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with sophisticated inspection equipment such as Coordinate Measurement Machine (CMM) and Vision Systems desirable.
  • Familiarity of Six Sigma and Lean practices desirable.
  • Drafting skills using Solidworks and AutoCAD desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Investigating, managing analysis, coordinating, responding and reporting of customer returns via Return Material Authorizations (RMAs) and internal Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) along with any associated customer return documentation.
  • Working with Quality Engineers and Manufacturing Engineers to execute corrective actions and preventive actions.
  • Auditing suppliers and working with suppliers on quality issues and NCRs.
  • Coordinating the qualification of new equipment along with any special process qualifications.
  • Assisting the Quality Engineers, Manufacturing Engineers and Quality Department in programming inspection equipment.
  • Providing support to Operations in developing in-process inspection methods for new products and ensuring consistent application of quality techniques.
  • Supporting new product/program activity such as Process FMEAs, Control Plans, Capability Studies, and Gage R&Rs as dictated by the customer.
  • Monitoring and reporting customer quality ratings.
  • Supporting activities of the Senior Manufacturing Quality Engineers or Manufacturing Quality Engineers.
  • Working with the Director of Manufacturing Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering Manager, Senior Manufacturing Quality Engineers or Manufacturing Quality Engineers on priorities and implementation of projects.
  • Performing effective problem-solving techniques and root cause analysis on customer returns.
  • Tracking and promptly communicating to customers regarding returns.
  • Generating a monthly Return Material Authorization (RMA) and Non-Conformance Report (NCR) summary.
  • In conjunction with Manufacturing Engineers, executing Corrective Actions and Preventive Actions.
  • Generating Process FMEAs, Control Plans, Capability Studies, and Gage R&Rs when required.
  • Working with Manufacturing Engineers to execute special process validations.
  • Generating protocols and executing installation qualifications, operational qualifications and software validations.
  • Requesting and executing requirements associated with a process change request.
  • Programming and setting up a variety of inspection equipment.
  • Determining priorities with the Director of Manufacturing Systems and Technologies on inspection and quality improvement projects.
  • Staying informed concerning new inspection technology and equipment, and investigating their potential applications.
  • Recommending incorporation of new technology for company applications where feasible and practical.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
