Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree minimum.
  • At least 8 years of experience in high-technology hardware development, product industrialization, or manufacturing engineering.
  • At least 3 years of experience leading a multidisciplinary technical or manufacturing team, including direct people-management responsibility.
  • Must meet the posting's U.S. person requirement: U.S. citizen, permanent resident or green card holder, or worker granted asylum or refugee status.
  • Must not be a People's Republic of China national or Russian national unless also a U.S. citizen, due to U.S. Government national security requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced degree in Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Demonstrated experience transitioning complex prototype hardware into repeatable, production-ready systems and leading manufacturing readiness through release and ramp.
  • Experience leading cross-functional engineering teams designing, industrializing, or manufacturing highly complex hardware.
  • Experience with UHV or XHV systems, precision mechanical assemblies, optics, photonics, cryogenics, atomic-physics hardware, or complex scientific instrumentation.
  • Strong understanding of DFM/DFA, process validation, configuration management, product release, engineering change control, and sustained production support.
  • Experience defining manufacturing strategy, readiness plans, capacity models, process definition, and facility layouts.
  • Demonstrated success establishing scalable production systems through tooling, fixtures, test equipment, process flows, work instructions, inspection plans, training, and manufacturing readiness reviews.
  • Hands-on experience partnering with engineers and technicians to assemble, integrate, test, troubleshoot, and improve complex hardware in a cleanroom or controlled manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency with structured problem-solving and continuous-improvement methods, including root-cause corrective action, statistical analysis, yield improvement, and production metrics.
  • Experience managing suppliers, outsourcing strategies, material flow, and cross-functional dependencies in support of production rates and delivery commitments.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills, including the ability to set strategy, translate it into executable plans, make data-driven decisions, and remain engaged with technical execution.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, develop, and align a multidisciplinary team of engineers, physicists, and technicians, establishing accountability, priorities, operating rhythms, and effective interfaces across the organization.
  • Own the industrialization and manufacturing strategy for UHV subsystems from early system builds through manufacturing release, production ramp, and sustained production.
  • Set manufacturing vision and roadmaps for current and next-generation systems, including manufacturing readiness, capacity planning, process definition and control, and material strategies.
  • Define manufacturing facility requirements and collaborate with cross-functional partners to design and establish new manufacturing facilities.
  • Partner with upstream design teams to define product and manufacturing requirements and incorporate manufacturability, assembly, testability, reliability, serviceability, yield, cost, and scalability into system architecture.
  • Establish manufacturing readiness criteria, design and process validation strategies, technical handoffs, release gates, and lifecycle ownership for complex hardware systems.
  • Develop and maintain production systems, including process flows, work instructions, build travelers, drawings, inspection plans, test procedures, tooling, fixtures, training, and engineering change control.
  • Partner with the quality team to meet quality, yield, throughput, cycle-time, cost, and reliability objectives using production data, structured problem solving, root-cause corrective action, and continuous improvement.
  • Provide hands-on technical leadership on the production floor to assemble, integrate, validate, troubleshoot, and deliver complex hardware with leads, engineers, physicists, and technicians.
  • Build partnerships with quality, supply chain, program management, operations, design engineering, and external suppliers to manage dependencies, resolve risks, and meet production commitments.
  • Establish and execute technical and program plans covering milestones, staffing, resource allocation, capital planning, prioritization, schedule tracking, and risk and opportunity management.
  • Hire, coach, and mentor a multidisciplinary team; own performance management, succession planning, capability development, and a culture of safety, quality, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Benefits

  • Competitive compensation and the opportunity to work on groundbreaking technology.
  • Flexible work arrangements that support work-life balance.
  • Employer-subsidized medical, dental, and vision insurance.
  • 401(k) retirement savings plan with company match and student loan repayment benefit.
  • Equity opportunities; the position is bonus- and equity-eligible.
  • Generous paid time off, sick leave, and 12 paid holidays annually.
  • Paid parental leave.
