Manufacturing Laborer
About The Position
The Manufacturing Laborer assists the material handling crew and performs general labor duties as assigned. The position is based in Bi-Con Services’ Manufacturing building in Derwent, Ohio. Work takes place in a manufacturing environment and includes supporting welding, pipe installation, flange assembly, hydro testing, material handling, and facility cleanup. Employees in safety-sensitive positions are subject to drug and alcohol testing under federal DOT regulations. Testing may occur pre-employment, randomly, upon reasonable suspicion, and after an accident. Under DOT regulations, marijuana is considered an illegal substance, whether used with or without a medical prescription.
Requirements
- General knowledge of manufacturing and/or industrial activities.
- Willingness and desire to learn.
- Must be able to bend, stand, and walk for long periods.
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
Responsibilities
- Promote the company’s safety culture.
- Participate in daily huddles and safety meetings.
- Properly use, maintain, and store tools and materials used in the course of work.
- Assist the welding crew with material retrieval; handling pipe and structural materials; and handling and placing stands and cribbing.
- Assist with flange makeups, including material retrieval, flange-face preparation, and torqueing; break down flanges and temporary screwed-pipe assemblies after hydro testing.
- Assist with screw-pipe installation, including retrieving materials, installing supports, measuring, cutting, threading, and installing pipe.
- Help the handling crew remove completed pipe and structural assemblies from the building and clean stands and cribbing from removed spools.
- Assist with hydro-testing setup, including filling with water, bleeding air from the test system, installing screwed assemblies for testing, and adding cribbing as needed.
- Assist with de-watering and general cleanup after hydro testing.
- Load and unload trucks as needed.
- Operate a band saw to cut pipe and structural materials to the correct lengths.
- Operate an overhead crane as needed to perform assigned tasks.
- Perform fire watch duties as directed.
- Assist with daily cleanup of the work area.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
