About The Position

The Manufacturing Lab Systems Engineer supports critical test environments at Apple’s Taiwan manufacturing facility for the new product introduction (NPI) development process. The role owns the cross-functional lab environment that enables silicon validation, software, hardware test, and reliability teams to access newly produced systems weeks before deployment to U.S.-based hardware labs. Working with in-region Electrical Engineering teams, the engineer debugs, triages, and manages newly manufactured hardware deployed in the labs, while coordinating with U.S.-based Lab Engineering and Systems EE teams to enable remote lab access. The role combines systems engineering technical depth—including electrical, software, and integration experience—with operational ownership across time zones. The engineer serves as the on-site directly responsible individual for the labs, works with the System Electrical Engineering team on hardware debugging and triage, and acts as the execution arm for NPI programs. In coordination with the contract manufacturer (CM) partner and under the direction of the System EPM, the engineer moves assets from the manufacturing line into lab environments and leads root-cause analysis, rework, and change management with in-region teams. The role also coordinates and tracks factory-server movement from the manufacturing line to lab environments, partnering with U.S.-based System EPMs and in-region software, reliability, diagnostics, test, and EE teams. It involves close collaboration with U.S.-based Hardware Engineering, Reliability, Software, Test, Validation, Thermal, Product Design, Diagnostics, and Engineering Program Management organizations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 4–8 years of experience in systems engineering, hardware integration, or manufacturing engineering in a server or HPC environment.
  • Capability in circuit and ARM system architecture, schematic analysis, layout analysis, and BOM analysis.
  • Technical knowledge of low- and high-speed signal protocols.
  • Experience with I2C, USB, PCIe, and Ethernet failure analysis.
  • Hands-on experience with SoC troubleshooting, board-level debugging and diagnostics, firmware, low- and high-speed system interconnects, and power management and distribution.
  • Demonstrated ownership of a lab or production hardware environment, including asset tracking, configuration management, and system disposition.
  • Experience directing CM or vendor teams in a manufacturing or lab environment.
  • Ability to work effectively across time zones in a globally distributed, matrixed organization.
  • On-site work at the Taiwan manufacturing facility as the primary work location.
  • Written and verbal fluency in English and Mandarin.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree with 5–10 years of experience.
  • NPI experience with data center server hardware, custom ASICs and SoCs, or high-density server environments.
  • AI scripting or automation skills, such as Python or Bash, applied to asset management, system monitoring, or lab tooling.
  • Experience in a high-touch lab or early-access hardware environment.
  • Experience troubleshooting elusive issues that appear to be software problems but originate in server hardware or firmware, including interactions between high-speed buses, firmware, and operating-system behavior.

Responsibilities

  • Own the cross-functional lab environment supporting NPI development and early access to newly produced systems.
  • Serve as the on-site directly responsible individual for the labs at the Taiwan manufacturing facility.
  • Debug, triage, and manage newly manufactured hardware deployed in the labs in partnership with in-region System Electrical Engineering teams.
  • Coordinate with U.S.-based Lab Engineering and Systems EE teams to support remote lab access.
  • Coordinate with the CM partner to move assets from the manufacturing line into lab environments under the direction of the System EPM.
  • Lead root-cause analysis, rework, and change management with in-region teams.
  • Coordinate and track factory-server movement from the manufacturing line to all lab environments.
  • Partner with U.S.-based System EPMs and in-region software, reliability, diagnostics, test, and EE team members.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams in Hardware Engineering, Reliability, Software, Test, Validation, Thermal, Product Design, Diagnostics, and Engineering Program Management.
