Manufacturing Engineer

Ferrotec Usa Corporation•Livermore, CA

About The Position

The Manufacturing Engineer supports development, documentation, sustainment, and continuous improvement of manufacturing processes for precision mechanical and electromechanical products. Working under guidance from experienced engineers and manufacturing leadership, this hands-on role supports daily production, assembly methods, tooling and fixtures, new product introduction (NPI), engineering changes, and process improvement. The role investigates routine issues, gathers objective evidence, implements approved solutions, and escalates complex or high-risk decisions. Manufacturing engineering is the primary function; test troubleshooting is supporting work. The role also supports manufacturing quality and operational performance by collecting and analyzing production data, participating in root-cause investigations, and contributing to Lean, 6S, mistake-proofing, and standardization improvements. It provides support for production test and inspection, communicates technical findings and action status, and trains production personnel on revised methods and instructions. Other related duties may be assigned, and duties may change at management’s discretion. Achievement of objectives must include an overriding commitment to quality.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in manufacturing, Mechanical, Industrial, Electrical, or Mechatronics Engineering, or a related technical discipline; equivalent relevant technical education and experience may be considered.
  • 1–2 years of manufacturing engineering or production-related technical experience, including internships, co-ops, capstone projects, or relevant hands-on technical assignments.
  • Ability to independently manage technical issues from failure identification through root cause, corrective action, verification, and closure.
  • Ability to support manufacturing documentation, process updates, engineering changes, and assigned technical activities accurately and within established timelines under appropriate supervision.
  • Basic analytical and problem-solving skills to investigate routine production issues, document findings, recommend corrective actions, and support verification of approved improvements.
  • Ability to contribute to measurable manufacturing improvements in first-pass yield, scrap, rework, cycle time, quality, or equipment downtime.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail, accountability, teamwork, and sound engineering judgment, including recognizing technical limitations and escalating safety, compliance, product-design, customer-approval, or complex manufacturing issues appropriately.

Nice To Haves

  • Exposure to semiconductor equipment, precision assembly, electromechanical systems, automation, or high-mix/low-volume manufacturing; preferred but not required.
  • Familiarity with CAD, ERP/MRP, NPI, ECO/ECN, Lean, 6S, PFMEA, SPC, and basic manufacturing test equipment; training may be provided.

Responsibilities

  • Support daily production by investigating routine assembly, workmanship, material, tooling, fixture, and documentation issues, and escalate unresolved or high-risk problems.
  • Create and update work instructions, routings, process flows, standard work, and build records with engineering review and document-control approval.
  • Interpret drawings, bills of materials, specifications, and basic GD&T to support repeatable assembly processes and identify discrepancies.
  • Assist with NPI, pilot builds, product transfers, qualification activities, and manufacturing readiness; record issues and track assigned actions.
  • Support ECO/ECN implementation by checking impacts to work in progress, inventory, tooling, work instructions, and operator training under established change controls.
  • Assist with tooling and fixture trials, basic process verification, calibration coordination, and production training as assigned.
  • Collect and analyze production data, including first-pass yield, scrap, rework, defects, cycle time, and downtime, and prepare clear summaries of findings.
  • Participate in root-cause investigations using 5-Why, fishbone, and structured problem-solving; help document containment, corrective actions, and effectiveness checks.
  • Support practical Lean, 6S, mistake-proofing, and standardization improvements; quantify before-and-after results when data are available.
  • Assist Quality and senior engineers with process controls, PFMEA updates, inspection requirements, and basic measurement-system or capability studies as applicable.
  • Support production test and inspection processes, including basic hardware troubleshooting, test fixture issues, test failures, and coordination with Test Engineering or design owners.
  • Use appropriate diagnostic instruments and manufacturing/test data to distinguish product, process, material, workmanship, and fixture-related issues.
  • Communicate technical findings and action status to technicians, engineers, suppliers, customers, and management; train production personnel on revised methods and instructions.
  • Perform other related duties reasonably assigned in the course of business and enable and drive organizational change.
