About The Position

This role is responsible for researching, designing, and developing improvements to existing processes, production methods, plant and work cell layout, production flow, production support equipment, and fabrication and assembly methods. The engineer will provide detailed recommendations for process direction and implementation, ensuring compliance with health, safety, and environmental policies. The position involves utilizing statistical techniques and other engineering methods to evaluate and improve processes, including LEAN techniques, Six Sigma, and TPS. The engineer will also work closely with production personnel and Program Management to achieve high standards in safety, quality, and delivery, and to ensure successful new program launches. Key responsibilities include measuring and tracking process efficiency, maintaining up-to-date knowledge of manufacturing engineering methods, assisting with tooling and equipment installation, and providing justification for capital equipment purchases. A strong understanding of quality objectives and systems is also required.

Responsibilities

  • Researches, designs and develops improvements to existing processes, production methods including plant and work cell layout, production flow, production support equipment, and fabrication and assembly methods.
  • Provides detailed recommendations for process direction and implementation.
  • Ensures all processes comply with DSC policy in areas of health, safety and environmental assurances.
  • Analyzes, recommends, and installs equipment required to meet applicable codes, standards and regulations.
  • Utilizes statistical techniques and other engineering techniques to evaluate existing processes and implemented improvements.
  • Develops corrective action plans to bring non-conforming processes into compliance.
  • Works extensively with production personnel including supervisors, team leaders, and operators to achieve the highest standards in safety/quality/delivery.
  • Enhance manufacturing efficiency through process improvements standardized work and world class 5S standards.
  • Works closely with Program Management to achieve new program launch objectives.
  • Measure and track process efficiency and report on scrap, rework, downtime, uptime, TAKT time and cycle times.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge in area of manufacturing engineering methods and processes and shares this information with team members.
  • Assists with assembly and installation of tooling and/or equipment, using hand and power tools.
  • Provide justification of capital equipment purchases.
  • Understanding and working knowledge of all job-related Quality Objectives, Quality System Policies, Procedures, and Instructions.
