About The Position

1X is building humanoid robots for home use, aiming to automate chores and tasks to give people more free time. This requires solving complex challenges in robotics, AI, and manufacturing simultaneously and at scale. The company has been developing these robots since 2014 and is now transitioning from development to shipping its flagship product, NEO. The Manufacturing & Production team plays a crucial role in this transition, responsible for developing scalable, repeatable, and high-quality production processes. They bridge product development and manufacturing, ensuring efficient production of components and assemblies while maintaining precision and reliability for humanoid robots. The team collaborates across machining, electromechanical assembly, automation, quality, supply chain, and production operations to accelerate the move from prototypes to high-volume manufacturing.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of manufacturing engineering experience supporting precision mechanical or electromechanical products.
  • Experience with CAM programming, fixture design, tooling development, and precision machining processes.
  • Strong understanding of Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and production process development.
  • Experience integrating electromechanical assemblies into production environments.
  • Familiarity with GD&T, tolerance stack analysis, CMM inspection, and precision measurement techniques.
  • Experience collaborating with design engineering, quality, production, and supply chain organizations.
  • Proficiency with CAD tools, PLM systems, ERP systems, and manufacturing documentation workflows.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience manufacturing robotic actuators, joints, motion-control systems, or other precision electromechanical products.
  • Experience operating in high-mix, low-volume manufacturing environments with rapid design iteration.
  • Familiarity with automation, lights-out machining, or advanced manufacturing technologies.
  • Experience applying Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or structured continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Experience supporting factory layout development, workstation design, and material flow optimization.
  • Experience supporting products through NPI, validation builds, and production ramp-up activities.

Responsibilities

  • Build the manufacturing systems that enable humanoid robots to scale.
  • Own manufacturing processes for critical robotic components and assemblies, taking products from prototype through production.
  • Develop robust machining, assembly, inspection, and validation processes that improve quality, throughput, and repeatability while supporting rapid product iteration.
  • Impact production readiness, hardware quality, manufacturing efficiency, and the long-term scalability of 1X robotic systems.
  • Develop and release manufacturing processes that consistently deliver high-quality robotic components and assemblies at scale.
  • Improve cycle time, first-pass yield, and process reliability through structured continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Design and deploy fixtures, tooling, CAM programs, inspection methods, and automation solutions that increase manufacturing efficiency.
  • Support NPI programs from prototype builds through production ramp while maintaining manufacturing readiness.
  • Establish and maintain process controls, quality metrics, and documentation that ensure repeatable production performance.
