About The Position

A Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for interpreting customer provided drawings and determining how to manufacture the product by utilizing CAD models and CAM software to create process and instructions for machine tools such as mills, lasers, press brakes, and turret punch presses to fabricate and machine precision ferrous and non-ferrous alloy metals. Key responsibilities include determining the respective manufacturing strategy, updating manufacturing routings as needed within ERP, evaluate customer drawings and marking up drawings as needed to note critical manufacturing and/or quality details, selecting appropriate tooling given part geometry and specifications, determining feeds and speeds, running simulations to check for errors, and optimizing production efficiency. The role does not have supervisory responsibilities. Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without the need for current or future visa sponsorship.

Requirements

  • Strong blueprint reading skills and working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing.
  • Advanced computer skills.
  • Mechanical inclination and competency for shop math.
  • Organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Interpersonal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to present or express information to individuals and/or groups.
  • Time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Persistence when faced with problems.
  • Experience with calculating flat pattern layouts on formed parts.
  • Experience with at least one or more of the following manufacturing types: CNC Milling (3,4, and 5 axis), Laser Cutting, Press Brake forming, Punch Presses.
  • Proficient in use of SolidWorks, MS Office and computer applications.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately interpret customer drawings and determine optimal manufacturing methods to meet required part tolerances, fit, and finish.
  • Create 3D models using SolidWorks as needed for use in programming.
  • Offline CNC Programing Types: Development of G-code CNC programs for CNC mills using CAM.
  • Development of CNC programs for punch presses using CAM.
  • Development of CNC programs for Bystronic press brakes using Bysoft.
  • Develop accurate and efficient fixtures for complicated part production when required.
  • Create machine tool setup sheets with detailed operator instructions and visual aids.
  • Perform miscellaneous tasks as required to support manufacturing, engineering, quality, and quoting departments.
  • Understand and act in a safe manner in a manufacturing environment.
  • Contribute to team effort by achieving results.
  • Work cooperatively with manufacturing team members and assisting sales engineers with quotes.
  • Communicate design constraints and work within the team to achieve solutions.
  • Responsible for other duties and tasks as assigned and, in some circumstances, may be completely unrelated to this position and/or this department.
  • Able to work up to 10 hours of mandatory overtime per week as needed based upon customer demand requirements.
