About The Position

Ultra Maritime is a leader in delivering multi-mission solutions for naval forces worldwide. We are seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to join our team. This role involves providing tactical support in determining fabrication and assembly operations, implementing cost-saving process improvements, and optimizing manufacturing processes for existing and new product lines. The Manufacturing Engineer will collaborate with Design Engineering, Quality Assurance, and Production Support to ensure efficiency, quality, and safety in our production processes. We are looking for individuals eligible to obtain Canadian government security clearance for Controlled Goods projects.

Requirements

  • Degree in Industrial, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, or other Engineering discipline with significant manufacturing experience.
  • Experience working as a Manufacturing Engineer or similar role in an industrial environment.
  • Must be able to gain the appropriate Canadian government security clearance and satisfy all requirements to be able to work on Canadian Controlled Goods projects.

Nice To Haves

  • Continuous improvement techniques such as LEAN, Six-Sigma and TQM.
  • Work measurement and standardization.
  • Experience within aerospace and defence is a distinct advantage.
  • In-depth understanding of Microsoft Office applications, including Excel and Visio.
  • Competency in ERP systems including development of routings and Bill of Material structures.
  • Strong technical writing ability. Previous experience writing work instructions is preferred.
  • Familiarity with 3D CAD drawing packages (SolidWorks preferred).
  • Competency in 2D CAD design (AutoCAD or MicroStation preferred).
  • Strong data analysis abilities, including Statistical Process Control.
  • Understanding of Engineering Change Control processes.
  • Interpreting engineering drawings, schematics, and other documentation.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Willing to learn quickly, be agile, and innovate to solve complex problems.
  • Lean Six Sigma certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Design, monitor, and optimize manufacturing processes for existing and new product lines.
  • Evaluate new product designs and advise on their suitability for production.
  • Support production in lead time improvements and scrap reduction using Continuous Improvement methodologies.
  • Design new processes, procedures, and manufacturing systems, leading implementation and training.
  • Perform work cell and production line balancing, line layout design, and time and motion studies.
  • Apply working knowledge of product design and assembly to the manufacturing process.
  • Develop, design, and implement Production Jigs and Fixtures to improve safety, product quality, and manufacturing efficiency.
  • Estimate costs, production times, or staffing requirements for new designs.
  • Develop standardized design criteria across product lines and participate in design reviews, ensuring Design for Manufacturing Principles are applied.
  • Lead the transition from Engineering Design to Manufacturing, including the development of routings and structures.
  • Design and implement new production line and facility layouts.
  • Respond to process failures, including root cause analysis.
  • Develop, modify, and update work instructions required to build product.
  • Improve product quality and margin through the reduction in scrap & rework.
  • Implement process improvements by identifying and eliminating non-value added activities.
  • Support product non-conformance investigation, identify root cause of rejects, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Conduct periodical process reviews, identify root causes of deficiencies, and ensure corrective actions are taken.
  • Work with Procurement and Production Support to improve material flow and reduce inventory.
  • Identify potential product improvement opportunities by liaising with manufacturing cells, engineering, and other departments.
  • Investigate new techniques and equipment to ensure manufacturing philosophy incorporates current best practices.
  • Act as a change agent within production to educate and influence team members on process implementation and improvements.
