About The Position

Federal Signal is hiring a Manufacturing Engineer for our operations department who will collaborate with our design and production team to determine manufacturability of new products. This role involves working with design engineering, operations management, production supervisors, and group leaders to ensure the "Design for Assembly" of new products and participating in Design Reviews. The engineer will also be responsible for programming and troubleshooting PLCs and production equipment, as well as automation and robotics. They will determine, specify, and implement necessary tooling, facilities, fixturing processes, and production equipment, including vendor selection. The position also includes conducting Value Analysis on existing products, developing and implementing process and assembly improvements, proposing and implementing new manufacturing processes and equipment, balancing production lines, evaluating production performance, assisting with testing equipment specifications, training supervisors and group leaders on machinery operation, developing teams to resolve production problems, and conducting cost/router/material usage audits.

Requirements

  • Bachelor Degree in Manufacturing/Mechanical Engineering.
  • CAD/CAM experience.
  • Microcomputer proficiency in major packages.
  • Ability to work well with people.

Nice To Haves

  • A minimum of three to five years experience in a manufacturing work environment preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with Design Engineering, Operations manager, Production Supervisor, and Group leaders for manufacturability (“Design for Assembly”) of new products and participates in Design Reviews.
  • Programs and troubleshoots PLC’s and production equipment.
  • Programs and troubleshoots automation, robotics and various technology in the facility.
  • Determines, specifies, and implements the necessary tooling, facilities, fixturing processes, and production equipment required, including vendor selection, for manufacturing.
  • Conducts Value Analysis on existing products.
  • Develops, justifies, and implements process and assembly improvements for existing products in tools, fixtures, and production equipment.
  • Proposes and implements approaches to the design and development of new manufacturing processes, equipment, and Plant/Work Center layout.
  • Balances line production (manufacturing) based on sales/marketing requirements.
  • Evaluates and monitors production performance against router times.
  • Assists Design and Test Engineering and specifies the necessary equipment for testing.
  • Instructs and trains supervisors and group leaders on proper operation of production machinery and equipment.
  • Develops teams to investigate and resolve routine production problems.
  • Conducts Cost/Router/Material Usage Audits as required by Cost Accounting/Marketing.
