Manufacturing Engineer II/III (Multiple Shifts) - Operations

Blue Origin•Space Coast, FL
•Onsite

About The Position

Blue Origin is hiring Manufacturing Engineer II/III roles within its Operations organization, which supports manufacturing and the integrated supply chain across Blue Origin facilities. These positions are based on Florida’s Space Coast, with multiple positions and shifts available; relocation is available. The role enables spacecraft manufacturing and integration through build planning, work instructions, production-line support, and design optimization. It translates engineering requirements into repeatable manufacturing processes and contributes to design for manufacturability, assembly, and test. The engineer works with design engineering, quality assurance, supply chain, and production teams, and develops manufacturing documentation such as process flows, tooling designs, and inspection plans. Work may involve technologies including composites, precision machining, additive manufacturing, orbital welding, and advanced assembly. The engineer also supports nonconformance investigations and corrective actions, communicates technical issues and recommendations, and ensures work meets applicable quality and safety standards, including AS9100 and ISO 9001. Additional activities include process FMEAs, risk assessments, production-line and equipment validation, and identifying efficiency and cost-reduction opportunities. Candidates must be able to work second shift, move shifts as needed, and work extended hours if required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Electrical, or Aerospace Engineering, or another relevant field, from an accredited university.
  • At least 3 years of experience in a manufacturing, industrial, or process engineering role.
  • At least 1 year of experience creating English work instructions.
  • Ability to explain technical issues clearly and concisely to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
  • Must be able to work second shift and be flexible to move shifts as needed.
  • Must be open to working extended hours if required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in one or more of avionics, wire harnessing, GNC hardware, thermal systems, test, or orbital tube welding.
  • Fiber optics experience in harnessing or GNC.
  • Proficiency in Creo or a comparable CAD tool for tooling and fixture design.
  • Experience performing engineering analysis to support tooling, fixtures, or process development.
  • Experience with human-rated or safety-critical hardware and understanding of human-spaceflight rigor.
  • Hands-on personal engineering, fabrication, or home-build projects.
  • Experience in high-rate aerospace and/or automotive assembly lines.
  • Understanding of mechanical design and manufacturing fundamentals, including working knowledge of GD&T.
  • Experience with bills of materials and BOM reconciliation.
  • Prior manufacturing engineering experience in aerospace or automotive.
  • Knowledge of Lean manufacturing practices and principles.
  • Experience with AS9100 quality standards.
  • Specialty depth in avionics box build, integration, and test.
  • Specialty depth in wire harness design-to-build, fabrication, and test; fiber optics experience is a plus.
  • Specialty depth in test-procedure development, test equipment, and integration and test.
  • Specialty depth in thermal hardware manufacturing and process development.
  • Specialty depth in manufacturing and integration of guidance, navigation, and control hardware; fiber optics experience is a plus.
  • Specialty depth in orbital tube welding process development, qualification, and production support.

Responsibilities

  • Enable spacecraft manufacturing and integration through build planning, work instructions, production-line support, and design optimization.
  • Contribute to design for manufacturability (DFM), design for assembly (DFA), and design for test (DFT).
  • Translate engineering requirements into robust, repeatable manufacturing processes.
  • Collaborate with design engineering, quality assurance, supply chain, and production teams.
  • Develop and maintain manufacturing documentation, including work instructions, process flow diagrams, tool designs, and inspection plans.
  • Evaluate and implement manufacturing technologies and methods, including composites, precision machining, additive manufacturing, orbital welding, and advanced assembly.
  • Support root cause analysis of process or product nonconformances and develop and implement corrective actions.
  • Communicate technical issues, risks, and recommendations clearly, and drive them to resolution.
  • Ensure work meets applicable quality and safety standards, including AS9100 and ISO 9001, and human-spaceflight requirements.
  • Participate in process FMEAs, risk assessments, and validation of new production lines and equipment.
  • Identify and complete opportunities for efficiency gains and cost reduction.
