About The Position

Northrop Grumman Aerostructures Business Unit (ASBU) has an opening for a first shift Manufacturing Engineer/Principal Manufacturing Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. The position will be located in Clearfield, UT at the Aeronautics Composite Center Elevated (ACCE) building. This position will support the Airbus A350 value stream in the manufacturing of carbon fiber stiffeners and frames. The selected candidate will provide critical support in a high-volume high-mix production environment, working closely with Operations, Quality, Industrial Engineering and Maintenance. Our goal is to minimize downtime on the production line by troubleshooting, problem solving, and proactively identifying areas of concern. Our engineers work to continuously improve their processes, eliminating process variation and waste while building in quality. Join us in the team effort to meet our production goals! This position will be a process owner and integral piece to our IPT for one or multiple of our manufacturing cells. This position supports a Monday – Friday 9/80 schedule. This role can be filled with a Manufacturing Engineer Level 2 or Principal Manufacturing Engineer Leve 3 depending on the qualifications below.

Requirements

  • Manufacturing Engineer Level 2: Bachelors Degree in a STEM field (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) and 1 year of work experience in a manufacturing environment; Masters in STEM with 0 years of experience
  • Manufacturing Engineer Level 2: Microsoft Office experience, specifically with Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Manufacturing Engineer Level 2: Ability to read and understand engineering drawings and specifications
  • Manufacturing Engineer Level 2: Working knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Principal Manufacturing Engineer Level 3: Bachelors Degree in a STEM field (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) and 4 years of work experience in a manufacturing environment, or Masters Degree in a STEM field and 3 years of work experience in a manufacturing environment; PhD with 0 years of experience
  • Principal Manufacturing Engineer Level 3: Experience with Microsoft Office, specifically with Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Principal Manufacturing Engineer Level 3: Experience with reading and understand engineering drawings and specifications
  • Principal Manufacturing Engineer Level 3: Experience with geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T)

Nice To Haves

  • Degree in Manufacturing, Aerospace, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering.
  • Experience with composite layup or composite material in general.
  • Experience working with automated fiber placement
  • Experience working with automated tape layup
  • Experience utilizing CNC interfaces (Fanuc and Siemens)
  • Experience using Solumina G8 or similar
  • Demonstrated understanding of root cause / corrective action processes and techniques
  • Experience using RCCA tools such as Five Why, Pareto, fishbone, etc.
  • Experience drafting, maintaining, and modifying work instructions and/or process specifications

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate within a Cross-Functional Team (CFT) to develop and implement process improvements as well as support site initiatives
  • Work closely with manufacturing personnel in the highly automated production of composite aerospace components
  • Author, modify, and audit shop floor electronic work instructions (EWIs)
  • Perform root cause and corrective action (RCCA) activities to permanently eliminate defects
  • Troubleshoot production/equipment/program/tooling issues and implementing improvements and solutions
