About The Position

The Manufacturing Engineer I supports the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of manufacturing processes to enable safe, efficient, and repeatable production. As an entry-level engineering role, this position works under the guidance of the Manufacturing Engineering Manager and other senior team members to support new product introduction, labor standard development, engineering documentation, tooling and fixture development, production issue resolution, and continuous improvement initiatives. The Manufacturing Engineer I applies foundational engineering principles to analyze manufacturing methods, support problem solving, improve workflow, and maintain production readiness in a mixed-product technical manufacturing environment. This role is intended to build core manufacturing engineering capability while contributing to productivity, quality, and continuous improvement objectives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related engineering discipline; equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.
  • 0–2 years of experience in a manufacturing or production environment; co-op, internship, or relevant project experience may be considered.
  • Eligible for registration with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC).
  • Basic knowledge of manufacturing processes, engineering methods, and production support in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience or familiarity with technical writing for process documents such as work instructions, build instructions, standard work, or test procedures.
  • Working knowledge of 2D and 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
  • Ability to interpret and produce basic mechanical drawings.
  • Hands-on interest in machines, tools, fixtures, and shop-floor problem solving.
  • Demonstrated analytical thinking and problem-solving ability.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to organize and manage multiple assigned tasks with limited guidance.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare process instructions, technical reports, and supporting documentation.
  • Ability to work effectively in a cross-functional team environment with production, quality, product development, supply chain, and related support functions.
  • Willingness to work in a hands-on manufacturing environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with basic electrical schematics is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Support new product introduction activities, including manufacturing readiness, labor cost definition, build instructions creation, and production floor implementation for new or existing products.
  • Assist in establishing, analyzing, and revalidating labor standards through methods analysis and time studies.
  • Develop, update, and maintain work instructions, build instructions, and related manufacturing documentation to support production readiness and process control.
  • Support daily production issue resolution through structured problem solving and root cause analysis.
  • Assist in identifying bottlenecks and supporting line balancing, workflow improvement, and method optimization to improve productivity and quality.
  • Design or support the design of tooling, fixtures, jigs, and related manufacturing aids to improve safety, consistency, and production efficiency.
  • Prepare basic CAD models, drawings, and technical information required for tooling fabrication and implementation.
  • Assist in process validation, test development, and implementation of new or improved products, processes, and systems.
  • Work closely with internal and external support resources, including production, quality, product development, supply chain, and fabrication resources, to support manufacturing objectives.
  • Support continuous improvement projects focused on capacity, quality, waste reduction, and manufacturing efficiency.
  • Support lean manufacturing and 5S initiatives through implementation, follow-up, and sustainment activities.
  • Support safe manufacturing practices by considering ergonomics, process controls, and safe fixture or method design in engineering activities.
