Manufacturing Engineer Co-op

MORSE Corp•Cambridge, MA

About The Position

MORSE Corp is seeking a hands-on, entrepreneurial Manufacturing Engineer Co-op to help expand in-house production capabilities for complex, higher-volume manufacturing. The co-op will participate in first prototype builds, help establish initial assembly lines, and support manufacturing ramp-up. Working with the CTO of Manufacturing, manufacturing engineers, design engineers, technicians, and external partners, the co-op will help turn innovative defense technologies into repeatable, fieldable production processes. The role offers end-to-end experience in manufacturing process development, documentation, tooling, quality, and production improvement.

Requirements

  • U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance.
  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
  • Able to commit to a full-time six-month co-op term from January through June 2027.
  • High initiative and interest in hands-on work building processes and capabilities from scratch.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple shifting priorities and flourish in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Fluency in SolidWorks and 3DEXPERIENCE (3DX) for design, documentation, and lifecycle management of parts, large assemblies, drawings, and metadata.
  • Ability to design and implement assembly jigs, fixtures, and Go/No-Go inspection gauges for repeatable, high-yield production.
  • Understanding of LEAN manufacturing and Root Cause Analysis (RCA) principles, with a history of owning and executing process improvement projects.
  • Experience with quality management systems (ISO 9001), including document control, ECN/ECO processes, PPAP, NPI gates, and conducting PFMEAs to mitigate production risks.
  • Proficiency in GD&T (ASME Y14.5 standards), drawing reviews, and tolerance stack-up analyses to ensure consistent fit during mass assembly.
  • Experience using ERP/MRP systems to manage Bills of Materials (BOMs), establish manufacturing routings, and support operational workflows.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in establishing and scaling manufacturing processes from R&D prototype builds to repeatable, fieldable production.
  • Interface with mechanical and electrical design engineers early in development to support smooth transitions into production.
  • Author and refine visual Work Instructions (WIs), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), setup sheets, routers, and quality control documentation.
  • Design, prototype, and validate assembly jigs, fixtures, and Go/No-Go inspection gauges for repeatable, high-yield production.
  • Participate in root cause analysis (RCA), yield optimization projects, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Assist with Quality Management System (QMS) activities, including PFMEAs, Engineering Change Orders (ECO/ECN), incoming inspections, and first-article testing.
  • Work hands-on with technicians and assembly personnel to ensure processes are followed safely, efficiently, and accurately.
  • Coordinate with external fabrication vendors and contract manufacturers for custom tooling, parts procurement, and outsourced processes.
  • Support maintenance of manufacturing Bills of Materials (BOMs) and routings within the ERP system.
