About The Position

ITW Performance Polymers is seeking a Manufacturing Automation Engineer to join their dynamic team. This role involves hands-on design and implementation of equipment in a chemical plant environment, with a focus on improving production and safety outcomes. The engineer will work closely with operations teams on the plant floor, troubleshooting equipment, optimizing performance, and enhancing safety, reliability, and uptime in real processes. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in automation of chemical, process, or industrial manufacturing environments.
  • Working knowledge of PLCs, power and control wiring, and industrial electrical systems.
  • Experience installing new automation equipment for industrial manufacturing applications and integrating into existing manufacturing processes.
  • Experience supporting operations in a live production environment.
  • Familiarity with OSHA PSM requirements.
  • Strong troubleshooting and communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Specific experience in an electrically rated production environment or Process Safety Management (PSM) facility.
  • Experience working with Ignition or Factory Talk software.

Responsibilities

  • Support installation, integration, and startup of new automation and process equipment to improve batch processing speed, reliability, quality, and safety.
  • Troubleshoot electrical, controls, and instrumentation issues, collaborating with maintenance and external contractors to resolve problems affecting plant uptime.
  • Implement safety initiatives and STOP Card projects to identify and correct site or personnel safety hazards.
  • Provide field support during startups, process upsets, and abnormal operating conditions.
  • Modify and troubleshoot basic PLC and HMI systems to support new equipment and process improvements.
  • Work with various contractors and vendors during equipment installation and commissioning.
  • Support OSHA Process Safety Management (PSM) elements, including Management of Change (MOC), Pre-Startup Safety Review (PSSR), Mechanical Integrity, and procedural creation.
  • Participate in Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs/HAZOPs) and implement electrical and control-related safeguards.
  • Lead electrical root cause analysis and implement permanent corrective actions.
  • Ensure compliance with NEC and hazardous area classification requirements (Explosion Proof Class 1&2, Div 1&2).
  • Develop and maintain electrical drawings, schematics, loop diagrams, and associated documentation.
  • Support electrical scope development for capital and reliability projects.
  • Lead small to mid-sized electrical and automation projects.
  • Promote, support, and adhere to all safety, environmental, and quality policies and procedures.
