About The Position

Avery Dennison is seeking a Divisional Manufacturing Automation Engineer to join their North America Materials Group (MG-NA). This remote-based role functions as a Senior-Level Specialist, acting as a recognized expert and best-practice resource for automation across their manufacturing network. The position involves leading and shaping the vision for automation, providing technical solutions to complex problems, and identifying/implementing automation opportunities in areas such as receiving, storage, material handling, coating, finishing, and shipping. The role reports to the Technical Director within the MG-NA Process Technology team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related scientific field.
  • Minimum of 10 + years of engineering experience in controls/automation including capital projects.
  • Strong background in industrial electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems; must be able to complete difficult technical assignments without immediate supervision.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD to develop and update complex drawings (P&IDs, PFDs).
  • Experience with MS Project or Smartsheet for project tracking.
  • Experience with high-volume manufacturing processes and capital equipment purchasing.
  • Strong verbal and written skills; ability to interface effectively with cross-functional groups to define and execute requirements.
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time, both domestic and international, based on business needs.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree is preferred.
  • 7+ years of exp will be considered for those with Master's+ engineering degrees.
  • Working knowledge of Six Sigma and ELS (Avery Dennison's Enterprise Lean Sigma) principles preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a five-year strategic automation roadmap to outline long-term investment opportunities.
  • Define the technical scope for MG-NA automation projects, including AGVs, robotics, and cobots.
  • Lead and coordinate complex, long-term engineering projects from inception to completion within budgetary and scheduling guidelines.
  • Act as a technical mentor, providing guidance and coaching to site-level technical teams on automation solutions.
  • Partner with international regions to benchmark and transfer best-in-class Avery Dennison automation solutions worldwide.
  • Represent the organization as the prime technical contact on major contracts and projects, interacting with senior external personnel and internal leadership.
