About The Position

Avery Dennison is seeking a Divisional Manufacturing Automation Engineer to join their North America Materials Group (MG-NA). This remote-based role functions as a Senior-Level Specialist, acting as an expert and best-practice resource for automation across their manufacturing network. The position involves identifying and implementing automation opportunities in areas such as receiving, storage, material handling, coating, finishing, and shipping. The engineer will report to the Technical Director and be responsible for developing a strategic automation roadmap, defining technical scopes for projects involving AGVs, robotics, and cobots, and leading complex engineering projects. Additionally, the role includes mentoring site-level technical teams, benchmarking and transferring automation solutions globally, and serving as a primary technical contact for major contracts and projects. Core competencies include self-leadership, agility, collaboration, and delivering high-quality results.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related scientific field is required.
  • Minimum of 10+ years of engineering experience in controls/automation including capital projects.
  • Strong background in industrial electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems; must be able to complete difficult technical assignments without immediate supervision.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD to develop and update complex drawings (P&IDs, PFDs).
  • Experience with MS Project or Smartsheet for project tracking.
  • Experience with high-volume manufacturing processes and capital equipment purchasing.
  • Strong verbal and written skills; ability to interface effectively with cross-functional groups to define and execute requirements.
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time, both domestic and international, based on business needs.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree is preferred.
  • 7+ years of exp will be considered for those with Master's+ engineering degrees.
  • Working knowledge of Six Sigma and ELS (Avery Dennison's Enterprise Lean Sigma) principles preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a five-year strategic automation roadmap to outline long-term investment opportunities.
  • Define the technical scope for MG-NA automation projects, including AGVs, robotics, and cobots.
  • Lead and coordinate complex, long-term engineering projects from inception to completion within budgetary and scheduling guidelines.
  • Act as a technical mentor, providing guidance and coaching to site-level technical teams on automation solutions.
  • Partner with international regions to benchmark and transfer best-in-class Avery Dennison automation solutions worldwide.
  • Represent the organization as the prime technical contact on major contracts and projects, interacting with senior external personnel and internal leadership.
  • Demonstrate Self-Leadership by displaying agility in changing circumstances, championing collaboration across functional teams, and delivering high-quality results despite obstacles.
