About The Position

The Cart Maintenance Technician is responsible for ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of all material‑handling carts within the facility. This position performs inspections, repairs, preventive maintenance, and documentation activities to support production operations and maintain compliance with safety and quality standards. The role requires strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently in a fast‑paced environment. Principal Job Duties and Responsibilities Reports to: Maintenance Supervisor or designated leadership. Works closely with: Maintenance Technicians, Parts Coordinator, Production Supervisors, and Operations Teams. May be required to support additional maintenance activities as assigned. Conduct routine and scheduled inspections to identify structural damage, worn components, missing hardware, and potential safety hazards. Perform repairs including replacement of casters, wheels, bearings, axles, fasteners, and other mechanical components. Execute basic welding tasks to restore structural integrity, repair cracked welds, and reinforce frames as needed. Complete preventive maintenance tasks according to established schedules to reduce equipment failures and extend asset life. Create, update, and close work orders; document repair actions; and record parts usage accurately within the computerized maintenance management system (L2L preferred). Communicate parts requirements, verify correct components, and ensure timely availability of materials needed for repairs. Prioritize tasks based on operational needs, production schedules, and safety considerations to minimize downtime. Perform cart overhauls, load testing, fabrication tasks, and root‑cause analysis for recurring failures as directed. Follow all safety policies and procedures, including proper use of PPE, Lockout/Tagout when applicable, and adherence to 5S workplace organization standards. Assist maintenance personnel during downtime events, high‑demand periods, or facility‑wide maintenance activities.

Requirements

  • Mechanical aptitude with the ability to diagnose and repair mechanical issues.
  • Basic welding proficiency for repair‑focused tasks.
  • Tool competency and understanding of proper tool selection for specific repairs.
  • Attention to detail with a commitment to quality and safety.
  • Organizational skills including accurate recordkeeping and adherence to maintenance procedures.
  • Computer literacy and ability to use CMMS platforms (L2L preferred).
  • Effective communication in both verbal and written formats.
  • Problem‑solving ability and willingness to identify root causes of equipment issues.
  • Adaptability to work in a fast‑paced environment with shifting priorities.
  • Ability to work weekends or varied shifts as required.
  • Demonstrated commitment to following all safety protocols and procedures.
  • Ability to lift, move, and manipulate carts and components up to 50 lbs.
  • Frequent standing, bending, kneeling, and use of hand tools.
  • Work performed in a production and maintenance environment with exposure to noise, moving equipment, and industrial materials.
  • Use of PPE required in designated areas.
  • Maintain a high level of personal accountability and ownership of assigned tasks.
  • Ensure all carts returned to service meet functional and safety standards.
  • Uphold company values, safety culture, and operational excellence standards.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement efforts related to equipment reliability and maintenance processes.
  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in production, manufacturing, warehouse, or shipping, or equivalent combination of experience and education.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to maintain integrity, confidentiality, and a clear vision of business needs.
  • Works well in a team environment with a diverse workforce.
  • Ability to perform several tasks concurrently with ease and professionalism.
